Kill Bill is on almost 1200 screens this weekend? Judging by the few screens it's on locally, that seems surprisingly high.

I think that’s pretty good for a nearly 5 hour movie that was originally made over 20 years ago.

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

I wasn’t a fan of FNAF 2, but that’s a great opening weekend for what is a low budget horror movie.

And this time it was theaters only, not day and date on Peacock like the first one. There are some hardcore fans of the IP.

Predator Badlands is now the highest grossing Predator movie of all-time

It's made almost $180M worldwide

Trachtenberg has totally revived the franchise.

Piss poor opening for Ella McKay, strong hold for Zootopia 2. Drop is about within expectations for FNAF2.

You could already tell by the marketing that Ella McKay was going to bomb. Who was that even made for? James L Brooks making movies like it’s 1986 still.

Outside of a banner on my Roku homepage, I didn't see a single trailer or TV spot for Ella McKay.

I've seen the trailer a few times prior to other movies at the theater, but nothing about it looked appealing.

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

Just reading the plot synopsis, sounds like something that would stream on Netflix.

Strong openings for David and Housemaid, Good hold for Zootopia 2. I think some expected more for Avatar 3 but it seems about where I'd been reading for a while now ($90m). marty Supreme had the biggest per screen average post-Covid.

Zootopia 2 has passed $1.2 billion. It’s made well over $500M in China alone. Massive hit for Disney.

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

Marty Supreme is making more than SIX TIMES as much money, per screen, than Avatar Fire & Ash, which is being shown in IMAX 3D? How is that even possible?
Are they charging $100 per ticket?

$20 regular tickets, $30+ 70mm tickets, I never really got how it gets that high either but apparently it does.

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

While it will take a few weeks to know for sure, it's looking like Avatar is heading to 1.5B. Solid for any movie, but a larger drop than they were probably hoping for. If they do pursue 4 and 5 they'll want to keep the budgets lower, which could happen with shorter run times.

Didn't have Zootopia 2 beating it, but that's a strong possibility.

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

Avatar apparently made $24m on Christmas. Very good chance it will only ease about 15% - 30% this weekend versus last weekend.

Marty Supreme apparently pulled a very solid $10m (w/ previews)

Similarly, it appears Zootopia will be up quite a bit this weekend versus last weekend.

Weekend BO Numbers:

These numbers are for the three day weekend, Christmas saw excellent numbers for the top ten as well.

$28.2m for the Marty Supreme so far is excellent.

$24k/theater average for Park Chan-wook's No Other Choice

What? I was told by the TV Spots that David was not only the "#1 Family movie in America", but the "#1 Movie of the Year"! Did somebody lie?

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

Thanks to Avatar 3, reigning Oscar winner Zoe Saladana just passed Samuel L. Jackson to move into 2nd place in the all-time career Box Office champ. And she's well-positioned to pass Scar Jo soon for the #1 spot.

Everything is crushing it as one would expect this time of year. No notes.

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

Pretty great holds for Avatar and Zootopia. Disney cleaning up for the holidays. It will probably be a pretty big drop next week with the holidays way over and kids back in school.

The Stranger Things finale wasn't counted? I know it's not in this chart but it didn't even show up in BO Mojo's weekly chart.

It wasn't counted because they officially didn't charge an admission fee. It was a $20 food GC.

It made between $25m and $30m but since it was all concession cash it doesn't count

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

That’s kind of odd isn’t it? Weren’t previous Netflix releases counted in BO numbers?

I’m not complaining since I effectively saw it for free. It was $20 but the $20 certificate could be redeemed for a straight up AMC GC.

Isn't this the first Netflix release that was charged like this (basically a gift to the theaters)?
