Ultron made less than the first Avengers movie, but Ultron has still made well over a billion dollars. That hardly means Marvel fatigue has set in.

I'd say the competition from other movies had a bigger effect then any sort of "fatigue." I think people have been saying fatigue every release so they can finally say they're right when one hits

Predicting that Feige will soon be asked to step down and Black Panther and Ms Marvel will be put on permanent hiatus. Should have just made Ain't Man for television and sold a extended edition DVD and Blu-Ray for the fans.

Re: B.O. Thread - 7/17/2015 - 7/19/2015 - Ant-man. aAAAHHhhh. Fighter of the Wright f

Marvel’s “Ant-Man” landed with a solid $58 million at the weekend box office.

It marks Marvel’s 12th consecutive first place opening, although “Ant-Man” isn’t at the level of other, bigger-name costumed heroes like Captain America, Thor and Iron Man, all of whom performed better out of the gate with their solo adventures. Going into the weekend, analysts expected “Ant-Man” to top $60 million, but its opening is similar to “The Incredible Hulk,” which earned an initial $55 million on its way to a $134 million U.S. haul.

“They are a victim of their own success,” said Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at Rentrak. “Any time you have a brand like Marvel, the expectations get blown out of proportion.”

That may be, but the studio sounds disappointed it couldn’t elevate “Ant-Man” to “Guardians of the Galaxy”-like numbers. Disney distribution chief Dave Hollis admitted that he wished the movie had done better, but still praised Marvel as a model of consistency.

“No one else could take what is really an obscure character and launch it in such a big way,” said Hollis. “It’s a sign that they’re doing so much right and that it’s a brand that has overwhelming momentum.”

And Disney will unload Marvel on Time-Warner for a song, not wanting to carry an obvious dud of a company anymore. And Warner will then do last minute editing to create Batman v Superman v Iron Man.

Typical doomsayer mentality. They're always saying the end is near in the hopes that one day they may be right. Hasn't Nintendo been going out of business for like the last 20 years according to the doomsayers?

No matter the director, Ain't-Man was just a bad idea out of the gate.

It should have been Aunt-Man. Make it a sequel to Mr. Mom.

If a $58m opening signifies "bad idea" I think we'll see an onslaught of "bad ideas" in the near future. This isn't a sign of fatigue (tho it is setting in), it has to do with being a far lesser known property with shitty advertising. A studio name only carries you so far.

‘Ant-Man’ Legs It To $56.4M Overseas; Bigger Than ‘Thor’, ‘Cap 1′ – Intl Box Office

http://deadline.com/2015/07/internat...ts-1201481996/

Disney/Marvel’s Ant-Man sprang into action in 37 offshore markets this frame, colonizing $56.4M in the process. That falls pretty much in line with expectations which were in the $55M-$60M range, based on debut performances of other Marvel titles in the same territory batch. Contrary to the Stateside bow, Ant-Man is currently tracking +23% versus Thor and +44% versus Captain America: The First Avenger in the same suite of markets. In Asia, it is well exceeding Guardians.

Honey I shrunk the kids was the 5th highest grossing movie of 1989, thus Disney has a good track record with shrinking.

I get it, you did not like the film, but folks have enjoyed movies about shrinking characters for decades. You should check out The Incredible Shrinking Man from the 50s...great black and white sci-fi classic.

Ant Man actually did just fine, Deadline was reporting that it should do about 115m worldwide, and it came in right under that number...so bzzz, nice try and thanks for playing but this film was not a bomb (if it had failed to crack 40-50m, than even I would admit it was a good film that did not succeed at the box-office).

Then it would seem like Ant-Man is the perfect idea, showing that small does not equal powerless, that one can overcome perceived limitations.

You do realize the comic version of the original Ant Man became Giant Man right?

Because the character was so lame, Lee and Kirby has to reverse his powers by the 2nd or 3rd issue of the Avengers.

The character debuted in "Tales to Astonish" well before "The Avengers" began, so the switch to Giant-Man wasn't anywhere near as instantaneous as you'd like to suggest. And he went back and forth from Ant-Man to Giant-Man, so clearly they didn't feel that Ant-Man was lame. But keep trying.

I just saw the movie yesterday and enjoyed it. I would rank it as my fourth favorite MCU movie after the first Iron Man and Thor Movies and GOTG.

I prefer the more down-to-Earth plot lines. Not every superhero movie has to be about saving planet Earth or humanity.

White people. They never really know how good they got it. White Privilege walking and talking here, folks.

----------------------------

Seriously though... Though the power set is lame at an immediate mention. It's what is done w/ it that pushes it out of lame. Guy that can shrink and is still as strong as he would be as a regular sized bloke but in the smaller size. Everything is amplified at his small size. Can use Ants to do stuff.

A lot of that is cheesy cuz it is but it's a heist film. That changes it all. So it actually amplifies the cheese to be cool via the concept for the use of it.

And also that was just Hank Pym. There have been other Ant-Men too such as Scott Lang.

Yeah, if they really wanted to create a non-traditional Marvel film, they could have done an R-rated raunchy comic action film featuring the Eric O'Grady version.
