I'm not sure Ant-man will have a great opening week B.O. (no, not 'body ordor') intake, but word of mouth I think will make it a surprise hit of the summer.

I going to guess it will do better than estimates and land around $75 million domestic.

Sources tell BoxOffice that Ant-Man headed for $65 million during its debut frame, while Trainwreck is on pace for $37 million. Ant-Man should have no problem pushing Minions out of the #1 spot.
Check back tomorrow for updated projections and official studio numbers.

Good to see Paul Rudd finally get his own franchise. The man has paid his dues and deserves it.

While he usually chooses smaller budget fare that pulls in a profit, I would consider Rudd on the bottom tier of A-List status. People know who he is, but they're not going to go out of their way to see a film of his. However, I'll second Perkinsun Dzees's comment. Rudd has tons of charm, charisma, and genuinely comes off as an all-around great guy; it's good to see him finally get his due from Hollywood (and get a screenwriting credit on top of it too). Surprisingly, this is also the lowest-budget film in the entire MCU to date at $130M.
I do think Ant-Man and Trainwreck are going to have some significant legs, especially with WOM being through the roof on both. People are genuinely surprised how entertaining and fun Ant-Man is and it feels Trainwreck is a return to form for Apatow.

Pitch Perfect 2 is going to wind up outgrossing Ted 2 (domestically) 2:1. Few people saw that coming.

There was way more demand for a Pitch Perfect 2 over a Ted 2 so it makes sense, I didn't think the first Ted was actually all that popular despite making a nice chunk of change at the B.O. fwiw, Ted 2 was a lot funnier than the first and PP2 imho. Pitch Perfect was a phenomenon on video.

This was the only scene in Ted 2 that was greater than what was presented in the first film:

After A Million Ways to Die in the West failed at the box office, I had a suspicion Ted 2 would've been dealt a similar hand. I enjoy MacFarlane's (dark) sense of humor and regardless of what I thought of each of his films, they all suffer from the same problem: they're too long.

I loved Ted 2. Saw it twice. Thought it was a bit better than the first. No idea why it didn't do as well other than going up against Jurassic World and Minions which both were still going strong.
Was hoping Ant-Man would do better than the estimates. Loved all the movies I've seen of him and it's about time he gets a big role in a franchise.

There's almost always a breakout comedy during the summer - Something About Mary out-grossing Godzilla in 98 for ex. Pitch Perfect might be that one for this yr - beating a lot of established, male centered movies. Trainwreck looks to be a winner also, though I don't anticipate it reaching Knocked-Up numbers.

Looks like Ant-Man came in at $58 million for the weekend. 2nd lowest opener for a Marvel movie, in front of Incredible Hulk.
So Ultron does not beat Avengers and now Ant-Man is slightly under estimates. Has the Marvel fatigue started?

Regardless, original estimates prior to the last week were 55-65M opening, so it fell right in to those expectations. Realistically, nobody was expecting this to duplicate the blockbuster success of "Guardians of the Galaxy". And it's getting generally good word of mouth in addition to a decent opening, so I don't think Marvel has too much to worry about.
