Yeah I sort of agree. I don't hate the choice but Trevorrow having a surprise smash hit with Jurassic World could very well have been a fluke. I sort of think that the franchise was away long enough that the new film would have gone over well no matter who was at the helm as long as it had a strong cast and decent story, which the film had both.

Nah, the execution was essential. Raptor squad and dino hybrids could have turned out fucking stupid at the hands of a lesser director. JW could easily have been the laughing stock of the summer if Trevorrow didn't nail the execution and Josh Trank didn't have a meltdown.

I get what you're saying but at the same time aside from some interesting choices, to postive response and action, I can see a good amount of directors doing just as good, if not better. There's to me nothing that screams that only Trevorrow could have done that.

Well, other directors could make a good Star Wars film as well. My point is that he handled some concepts that could have easily been silly on screen, remarkably well. Honestly it's a miracle that the movie worked for so many audiences as well as it did. If the guy can do the raptor squad justice, I think he can do just about anything in the Star Wars universe, which will be more fantastical than anything in JW.

I'm sure Trevorrow will do just fine. Remember, people, he's a cog in a massive wheel. Spielberg clearly groomed him well on JW, and I'm sure the producers feel the same can be done here.

I thought Jurassic World was good, but that Safety Not Guarenteed was excellent. Who is writing Ep IX? I know it hasn't even been released yet but I was really hoping Lawrence Kasdan would write or co write all 3.

^ Kasdan was brought in to be a member of the new Star Wars "brain trust" and initially took the assignment of writing the young Han Solo movie only. He assumed co-scripting duties on Episode VII at Abrams request and they put the Solo assignment on the backburner. I'm sure Kasdan will have input on the other two films in this trilogy, but I haven't heard anything about him having a writing credit on them.

The original trade reports had Rian Johnson writing and directing IX, then it was revised to him just writing it. Even if that's still the case, I'm sure Trevorrow will have a hand in revising the script. Kennedy seems to be all about letting the directors put their unique stamp on each film. The announcement mentioned Colin is heading to Lucasfilm before the end of the year so he can work firsthand with the other directors, even though the movie won't enter production for a couple years.

So not that it'll actually go anywhere (at least I hope not) but someone on change.org started a petition for Disney to have George Lucas direct Episode IX and its up to 16,000 signatures. Overall its not a very big number of people who have signed it but I hope Disney doesn't take it seriously and consider bringing Lucas in more in some capacity for future films in the franchise.

Even if Disney wanted Lucas back (which they don't) I don't expect he would be very keen to do it at this point. It isn't his trilogy anymore, and I doubt he'd want to finish someone else's trilogy.

Well supposedly Lucas himself signed it. I don't know if that would make Disney take notice. I'm not really worried about it I just can't believe that there's actually a group of fans who actually want him back in the picture.
