Ugh. I dunno. I GUESS Trevorrow is ok... I just... haven't been surprised by him yet. JW was fun and all that but I feel like JW could have gone that way w/ or without him.

Yeah I sort of agree. I don't hate the choice but Trevorrow having a surprise smash hit with Jurassic World could very well have been a fluke. I sort of think that the franchise was away long enough that the new film would have gone over well no matter who was at the helm as long as it had a strong cast and decent story, which the film had both.

Nah, the execution was essential. Raptor squad and dino hybrids could have turned out fucking stupid at the hands of a lesser director. JW could easily have been the laughing stock of the summer if Trevorrow didn't nail the execution and Josh Trank didn't have a meltdown.

I'm sure FF not existing would have affected it none.
I get what you're saying but at the same time aside from some interesting choices, to postive response and action, I can see a good amount of directors doing just as good, if not better. There's to me nothing that screams that only Trevorrow could have done that.

Well, other directors could make a good Star Wars film as well. My point is that he handled some concepts that could have easily been silly on screen, remarkably well. Honestly it's a miracle that the movie worked for so many audiences as well as it did. If the guy can do the raptor squad justice, I think he can do just about anything in the Star Wars universe, which will be more fantastical than anything in JW.Originally Posted by Solid Snake

I'm sure Trevorrow will do just fine. Remember, people, he's a cog in a massive wheel. Spielberg clearly groomed him well on JW, and I'm sure the producers feel the same can be done here.

I thought Jurassic World was good, but that Safety Not Guarenteed was excellent. Who is writing Ep IX? I know it hasn't even been released yet but I was really hoping Lawrence Kasdan would write or co write all 3.
#58
^ Kasdan was brought in to be a member of the new Star Wars "brain trust" and initially took the assignment of writing the young Han Solo movie only. He assumed co-scripting duties on Episode VII at Abrams request and they put the Solo assignment on the backburner. I'm sure Kasdan will have input on the other two films in this trilogy, but I haven't heard anything about him having a writing credit on them.
The original trade reports had Rian Johnson writing and directing IX, then it was revised to him just writing it. Even if that's still the case, I'm sure Trevorrow will have a hand in revising the script. Kennedy seems to be all about letting the directors put their unique stamp on each film. The announcement mentioned Colin is heading to Lucasfilm before the end of the year so he can work firsthand with the other directors, even though the movie won't enter production for a couple years.

Speaking of directors coming from nowhere and getting big gigs, whatever happened to DJ Caruso?

So not that it'll actually go anywhere (at least I hope not) but someone on change.org started a petition for Disney to have George Lucas direct Episode IX and its up to 16,000 signatures. Overall its not a very big number of people who have signed it but I hope Disney doesn't take it seriously and consider bringing Lucas in more in some capacity for future films in the franchise.

Why would you even worry? Or have an inkling of that possibility? Originally Posted by Mike86

VII succeeded cuz it didn't have Lucas.
Kennedy has her filmmakers, she wants critical and financial value.
Talking about Trevorrow... I hope he really brings something of value to the table cuz JW had a lot of crap to it even with some neat bits.

Even if Disney wanted Lucas back (which they don't) I don't expect he would be very keen to do it at this point. It isn't his trilogy anymore, and I doubt he'd want to finish someone else's trilogy.

Well supposedly Lucas himself signed it. I don't know if that would make Disney take notice. I'm not really worried about it I just can't believe that there's actually a group of fans who actually want him back in the picture.
#65
Unless he has publicly come out and stated as such, I would very much doubt the authenticity of any Lucas signature on that petition.

It's not even a blip on my radar.

How do they know they're going to actually do an Episode IX? Don't they need to wait to see how much episode VIII makes before they give the green light to do another one? What if episode VIII only make $100 million?

I just brought it up because its been pretty widely reported on and I felt it was newsworthy to post. I'm not saying it will go anywhere or that I'm really concerned about it. Its just you never know what could happen. Trevorrow actually issued a response to it as well so I don't think it's exactly going unnoticed. I doubt it will go anywhere though. What if Avengers: Infinity War Pt. 1 only makes $100 million? Would they even bother finishing pt.2?

People make bs petitions all the time. It makes them feel important and socially active. It's lazy fuck activism essentially. Originally Posted by Mike86

The news reporting on something like this seems like more of a criticism of the media on how it is now and how little value it is at times.
I heard about this yesterday... but again. It doesn't matter cuz it wouldn't go anywhere. Kennedy is running the ship and I don't think anyone but possibly Horn could do something about how the ship is sailing w/ Lucasfilm. And after VII... why would you bring him back? He essentially destroyed the franchise in critical value. Kennedy seems like she wants it all. She wants critical and financial value. She got it w/ VII.

That's the way I want it, bitch. I don't need no goddamn grandstand to know that I know some shit, son. Yeah. I'm pretty smart. But I also love to slum it down, motherfuckah.
