Saw this tonight. Such beautiful cinematography for an action film. The editing was seamless, no shaky-cam anywhere. It felt like an old school action movie from the 70s or 80s. I gave it 5/5 stars.

George Miller is 70 years old, how did this movie not kill him?
I know its silly to compare but Fury Road really makes Age of Ultron look like a piece of shit. I wish this film did Avengers business at the B.O.
This is my favorite action movie since, well probably Rambo IV. Never discount the old guys.

Ugh, the theaters in this area are trying hard to make you see it in 3D. At several theaters, most of the showings are in 3D and the only 3D matinees are before noon. I guess it's going to depend on how long it takes me to do my doctor's appt tomorrow.

Also, not too dredge up the feminist conversation earlier, but this one was a lot less feminist-centric than I expected going into it.

I don't wanna keep beating a dead horse, but when I think of all these young hot shot action/comic book movie directors who've made a name for themselves I can't stop thinking about how they all just got taken to SCHOOL by a 70 year old man whos last directorial effort was Happy Feet 2.
The film is quite honestly a masterpiece.

Its been 30 years since he made a film like this and the stuff in between has lighthearted fluff like Happy Feet and Babe. I imagine this film has been slowly building up and brewing inside of him for the last few decades until it finally exploded violently and beautifully onto the screen.

Went to the 8:00 showing. 8:05 the manager comes in and says they are having problems with the projector. 8:30 the lights go down and previews start.
27 previews later the lights go down more.....movie is about to start.....NOT. Bearded hipster employee comes in and says they are having problems with the security key. I think to myself, this would have never happened with film.
9:00 the movie starts. It looks like shit. What are they playing some kind of satellite feed? Frames dropping all over the place. Real stuttery like one of those bad Netflix streams. Was this a technical issue or a stylistic choice of the film? I have a hard time believing the film just looks that way.
And the sound was too low.
All in all, a crappy presentation.
But the movie, holy cow. It was pretty crazy all right. So much to take in that I'm not really sure if I loved it or not.

That was the whole point to what I said. I liked the the movie I want to see it again. But hardcore man hating feminists are going to lach on to this movie and say this movie was made for them, and its a hard R action movie that appeals mostly to guys. This is a part of the war on men that is currently being waged in America.

I wonder if this ends up being the highest rated movie that won't get a Best Picture nomination. Everyone and every critic loves it (so far), and yet it probably has no shot at a BP nomination due to it being an "action" movie. It should rack up in the technical categories though.
It now has a whopping 2 negative reviews, still at 99% with 174 reviews in. That is amazing.

Ex Machina should available via Video on Demand in a month, or you can just import the Blu-ray from the UK in a couple weeks.
