Cool--I'm listening to the audiobook again in anticipation of the movie.

This is going to be a movie with hour-long YouTube videos dedicated to the Easter eggs.
I found the book to be okay, the pop culture references got tedious after a while. Especially some of the more obscure ones. I consider myself pretty Savvy with pop culture but there were references that I didn't remember and had to look up.
That being said, this movie would likely do pretty well with word of mouth if it keeps to pop culture references everyone remembers. And that first trailer looks great.

That trailer is fucking awesome! The Stacks, the zero g room, the Delorean, the mobs of Sixers... my expectations are even higher now than they were.

Who is that walking behind The Iron Giant? And is that Deadpool that glances at Wade earlier as he walks past him?

This looks amazing. I didn't understand that it pulls in all these different pop culture elements. Looks like Spielberg has a sci-fi actioner on par with Minority Report. I think this is going to be big.

Christine (and the A-Team van) is in the line-up to the right when they're 1st getting in the cars, with Lara Croft leaning on it at 1:21 just before the red light, and the Delorean passing it at 1:45 just before Sheridan takes the goggles off.

Since I did not read the book and know absolutely nothing about the movie, the trailer did not do much for me. I am hoping the movie is more than just watching people play a video game.

The people are IN the video game. So really, the movie presentation is no different than any other fantastical setting for a movie - except, basically, there are no rules.

That can be said for many movies based on books for me but I can still think a trailer will look interesting enough to look up info. Plus you have this thread that has info posted.

Wow, that movie looks really depressing. But then I found both A.I. and MINORITY REPORT bleak and depressing. This looks even worse. Whatever happened to the director of CLOSE ENCOUNTERS and E.T.?

I guess I am in the minority then as the trailer did nothing for me as I am not much of a video game player. I am hoping the movie is more than just non-stop video game action.

A trailer is supposed to make one interested in the film, this did not as all it showed was video game action. I mentioned that I knew nothing about the book or film because from the trailer, it looks like 2 hours of people playing virtual reality video games and that does not interest me.

Fair enough.
Just having Spielberg direct is enough to get me interested.

The fact that Spielberg directed keeps a little interest sparked in me, so we will see.

I will say though, the book is more about an epic Quest, with pop culture (tv, movies, books, role-playing games, you name it - not just video games) from the 80s/90s as a backdrop. Not just "playing video games".
This is the first teaser trailer, and they don't get into the quest aspect at all.
