The Adam Sandler / Happy Madison / Netflix Thread

I see reviews that lament Sandler making a movie like this after starring in Uncut Gems. It's time for people to accept that presenting no-brainer plots with plenty of juvenile jokes is all that Sandler wants to accomplish with his productions. Number One and Two on his mind are his paycheck and having a good time on set.

Hubie was pretty good. These are family movies. Dumb comedy family movies. I'm not sure what you guys expect. I enjoy his charm.
I liked that Hubie felt less cheap than some of his other Netflix movies. Some of those, it's like the crew just gave up and didn't want to light, shoot, and edit everything. I don't get it. Like back to film school.

I liked The Wrong MIssy. I thought the weakest thing about it was the casting of Spade. I'm not a Spade hater, but he was too old for that part.

I think Sandler basically just wants to have a good time messing around with his friends. Things like quality control and ambition probably don't even cross his radar. He also has a serious case of creative arrested development. As a result his Happy Madison stuff has always been a mixed bag. His stand up special from last year, however, was fucking great.

I gave up on Hubie Halloween within a few minutes. I’m usually forgiving with stupid comedy, but the dumb accent and barfing while riding the bicycle through town was beyond terrible.
wow, just wow. Utter garbage.

I managed thru Hubie with the kids... it's pretty awful. I feel confused that Julie Bowen would star in a trash movie like this; I know she's not an A+ actress but her role was embarassing.

Was going to completely pass on Hubie... but was over at my moms this weekend and she put it on so I watched it.
The only decent thing about the movie was Hubie's gadget thermos. The movie was bad.

Na... the best part was June Squibb’s T-shirt collection.

Yeah, Hubie Halloween was just boring. Loved June Squibb as usual and the Shaq part made me laugh.
It had a few other signs of life scattered throughout but not nearly enough, nice call back to the Happy Madisonverse, but definitely a slog.

Watched Hubie. It was pretty bad. Like really bad. But for some reason still mildly entertaining. I think it was okay because I didn't have to pay anything extra, it was Halloween themed, which I was in the mood for, and it felt like a throwback Happy Madison movie.

Hubie Halloween felt like a unofficial Waterboy sequel set in Halloween.

I saw Murder Mystery last year. Yeah I don't remember much about it other than Jennifer Aniston looking good. She and Sandler were just an odd pairing as a couple on the movie.

Awe. I prefer stupid and cartoony Sandler movies. Not the 'Sandler on vacation' movies.
Is he still in that crazy Netflix contract from like 5 or 10 years ago? I always look forward to his movies.

I just watched The Week Of on Netflix and oof, it was not a good film and like many others I am usually very forgiving when it comes to Sandler films as i am not expecting high art. I watched it in the background, but still took the time to fast forward through a lot of scenes. The running gag with the legless Seymour and not fessing up on the real reason why he lost his legs just went on and on and on and wore out its welcome. There were some fun bits of dialogue, and it had quite the cast but it is a film that is easily forgotten about once you have watched it.
