Curse of the Jade Scorpion is one of Woody Allen's funniest films.

Re: Make a bold statement about movies.

"Adjusted for inflation" is a meaningless stat, considering films today have to compete with so many other forms of mediums, but most importantly home video changed everything.

Is this really all that bold of a statement? That statement probably reflects 99.99% of the population. If you had said the vast majority of the Criterion Collection is horrible and not worth the cost of the film they're printed on, then I'd say you were being a bit bold.

A vast glut of unwatched movies I never got around to on Netflix tells me most films are mediocre and not really worth my time.
What does this even mean? If you're saying that most films made are mediocre, then that's probably 100% true. But how does you not having seen them reinforce that point?

My bold statement: trying to dub it "Lame Ass Games" was pretty weak, especially when "Hunger Lames" was just sitting there.

Re: Make a bold statement about movies.

Braveheart, while handsomely made, is simple and cartoonish and poorly acted. It's among the worst Best Picture winners of the last quarter century (and there have been a lot of undeserving winners in the past quarter century).

Not to take away from what you stated, just reminded.

Gladiator is one of the least deserving Best Picture winners of all time.

Most of the Best Picture winners of the past 30 years have been pretty weak.

Re: Make a bold statement about movies.

Speaking of which, since we're talking bold statements...

Gladiator deserved to win Best Picture in 2000 and is a great movie. I think that's more bold then the opposite, which seems rather prevalent.

And Forrest Gump deserved to win in 1994.

Creative failures are more interesting than recycled perfection. It's why I don't really dig most Pixar movies, even before they hit the critical cliff.

Speaking of Best Picture winners:

Dances with Wolves deserved the win over Goodfellas.

Slumdog Millionaire was a deserving Best Picture winner.

I agree 100%, except I would make that 50 years instead of 25.

The Phantom Menace is the best Star Wars movie.

Re: Make a bold statement about movies.

Return of the Jedi actually is my favorite Star Wars movie.

The Luke/Vader/Emperor confrontation is my favorite part of the trilogy. Yes, it was lame to bring back the Death Star, but the Death Star II space battle was much more epic than the Death Star I battle.

I agree. Which is why adding Vader's "nooo" to the film was the final straw for me in not giving a damn about the series anymore.

Re: Make a bold statement about movies.

Someone needs to figure out how to edit modern End Credits down without getting people who worked on the films butthurt.

Re: Make a bold statement about movies.

End credits are sometimes the best part of a movie.

And "Caligula" was better than "Gladiator".

Re: Make a bold statement about movies.

Way too often Foley Artists go way overboard in film sound creation. Unless it's part of the story or a joke, I don't need a noise for every fuckin' thing. I get it...he's eating a peanuts.

It used to be. Now it's a bunch of pixels.

Aren't there rumors that Kershner was involved with the Luke-Vader stuff from ROTJ? The tone of those sequences does feel a little different than the rest of the rest of the film?

Eh, I'm just a pussycat. I don't flip out over movies anymore, loving 'em, hatin' 'em. They're just movies.

Maybe that's bold in a place like DVDTalk. They're just movies, people.

And congrats on the sheep game, rocket.
