For years I've felt Mary Poppins was set in the Lord of the Rings future.

That is an awesome trailer and I am afraid to admit that I believe I have yet to see that movie. But I definitely will.

"The Conversation" and "Enemy of the State" because of GH's character.

EDIT: as well as the old thread I slyly linked to, I've just now looked back through this one and seen: http://forum.dvdtalk.com/12225991-post31.html

Not exactly the same thing as "unofficial sequels", but The Freshman and Rumor Has It... are kind of unique in the sense that they are fictional films that play upon the history of real-life beloved fictional films that came before (The Godfather and The Graduate respectively) and present their characters as the "real life" inspiration for the previous movies. I don't know how exactly one would classify them -- I suppose in a way, that makes them "unofficial sequels", at least in spirit.

While not sequels, watching the 1933 King Kong and then Peter Jackson's 2005 version work well together. One is the typical 1933 sensationalist approach to a monster movie, and the other could be seen as the way it really happened (Kong as a quadroped, Ann not being frightened all the time).

The world of The Wiz is actually the New York of the Warriors

The Hunter-Killer tanks of The Terminator are scaled-up models of Johnny 5 from Short Circuit.

The Right Stuff, Apollo 13 and From the Earth to the Moon work great as a single epic about NASA's early years. IIRC, the FtEttM producers deliberately chose to skip things covered by the films.

To me, THE WIZ connects more to ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK, chiefly because of the World Trade Center scenes in both. Never thought of it in connection with THE WARRIORS, but that could make sense also--maybe even better sense. Of course I'd need to see THE WIZ again to make sure, something I have no intention of ever doing.

Just thinking that Captain America: The Winter Soldier could be the third movie after Three Days of the Condor and Spy Games. Redfords character could have switched from the CIA to SHIELD.

Now that you mention it, the Warriors would make sense as a prequel to Escape, showing the events that lead to the city getting closed off.

I was thinking the same thing when I finally watched TWS on Friday. Although

This makes even more sense when you consider Craig's final line in Layer Cake

and that the title track of Casino Royale is called "You Know My Name".

Would Flags of Our Fathers and Letters From Iwo Jima count, or have those been officially linked?

This thread made me revisit Layer Cake today (I can't believe it's already 10 years old). The Bond connection gets even more interesting when you realize that it's
Spoiler:
Ben Whishaw (Q) who shoots Daniel Craig at the end.

Yeah, they're linked. I remember reading on imdb's trivia that the same U.S. soldier with the flame-thrower appears in both movies.

Well, that does make since

My favorite part is when he runs up to the group of black kids and says, "Hey, you guys must know how to steal a car."

I've said that Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is a prequel to Spielberg's film Lincoln

(People laugh when I say that because they think I'm joking. And I am... mostly.)

If you look to the extras on the Prometheus BR, then it would appear Soldier, Blade Runner, Prometheus, and the Alien saga are all in the same universe.
