I mean the Boys goes above and beyond, I can completely understand that even if it was disconnected from the rest of the DC universe. But there are a lot of like really dark stories even in that era, even beyond the ones everyone remembers like Killing Joke. A lot of them were focused on younger heroes like the Legion or New Teen Titans, who went really really dark (and were really really popular). Like look up what happened to the original Dial H for Hero kids in Titans.

Wow, I actually didn't know The Boys was at WildStorm first. I picked up that series in the teens, I think, so it was already at Dynamite.

EXCLUSIVE: We understand that Guardians of the Galaxy alum Sean Gunn is set to take on the role of evil businessman Maxwell Lord in the new DC Universe that’s being overseen by James Gunn and Peter Safran.
The role was previously played by Pedro Pascal in the 2020 movie Wonder Woman 1984.
It’s not clear if Sean Gunn’s Maxwell Lord will make a cameo in brother Gunn’s Superman: Legacy which will go into production next year. The character, as I hear it, will be referenced in the background of Legacy but will appear in future DC projects. A similar motif will occur for other characters in the new DC Universe, the first phase which is named Gods and Monsters: Chapter One. Stay tuned.

Meh. He seems ill suited for Max Lord, but it's not like the real character was played by Pedro Pascal in WW84. I'm guessing Sean Gunn's Max Lord will be as comic book accurate as his Calendar Man. In any case, all the casting announcements are nothing but white noise. I'll do my best to reserve judgement until we at least get a trailer.

I would assume that Maxwell Lord, who first appeared in the post-Crisis Justice League comics in 1987, was based on Donald Trump.
Take from that what you will.
Or, at the very least, he's just a generic, sort of sleazy, yuppie businessman archetype that was popular back in the 1980s.
But, reading those books back in the 1980s, I always figured he was based on Trump who was just a smarmy, self-important, attention-whoring real estate tycoon.

Teen Titans live action movie is in development. I'm only posting it here, because it's only in "development" It's still a long way from happening. They hired the writer of the new Supergirl movie to write it.

Really hope that Titans film is based on the classic Wolfman/Perez lineup from the 80s -- Nightwing, Troia, Kid Flash/Impulse, Starfire, Cyborg, Raven, and Changeling.
