I never realized I wanted to see Batman riding a horse until just now.

Looks like DC Films found their new boss replacing Walter Hamada

So it looks like we’re finally going to get one unified DC Universe, movies, HBO Max and TV. Whether this is good or not remains to be seen.

Looking over his producing credits doesn’t seem all that impressive to me. Skeptical about him being DC’s Feige.

Not saying Dan Lin is the guy but who knows, maybe he has the "it" factor (no pun intended). We shall see.

I mean he might, but looking at what he’s been involved with.. nothing overly impressive. I’m not sold at this point but I guess you never know.

Feige seemed like a natural fit because he had done a bunch of Marvel films even if some were of varying quality.

Let's be honest, could it be much worse than it has been? Probably not much. Anyone new and fresh may be a good thing at this point.

It might also just be WB Discovery spinning their wheels even more. At this point I really don’t trust anything they’re doing.

Nobody heard of Walter Hamada either when he was hired in 2018. He was just an EP/Producer on a few WB horror movies.

I've seen Lin's name pop up a few times in some shows I've seen as EP. I don't claim to know who he is or if he's really qualified. The vast majority of the general public don't know who these suits are.

He might be good, as others have said, it couldn’t be worse. A cohesive DCEU will be a good thing. I think Peacekeeper is really the first show they’ve had that fits in well with that. It’s got to be what they’re looking for.

People are already pissing all over this elsewhere. FFS Feige was a NOBODY. I suppose many of them just see another Asian guy and shit themselves.

I’m just saying there have been a lot of questionable decisions lately over at WB Discovery, many of which revolve around DC. This just isn’t adding any confidence in my view.

The Hollywood Reporter is saying he's "In talks" which usually means he's a lock for the job, but Variety kind of refuted it saying that there are some professional hurdles and he's only a "candidate"

What specifically doesn't add confidence? The guy is obviously an accomplished producer. I'm not saying he's an obvious choice or a promising one, but he certainly doesn't scream disaster either. He must have had a plan and a proposal to be taken this far.

I don't know what's going on with WB Discovery either, but they've proven more than than anyone else involved with the DCEU that they are least committed to protecting the brand, both in perception and quality, by not release crap product for crap product's sake.

The Variety article posted above says how in 2008 "he almost had a job 'overseeing the entire DC franchise' due to his work producing a 'Justice League' movie for director George Miller." Seems like someone who has been after this for a while.

I’m probably jumping the gun on the guy when it’s not really anything he has or hasn’t done, but more just because of other things happening and not having a lot of faith in the direction of WB Discovery as a whole.

It just feels like DC in particular has been the victim of haphazard decisions for a long ass time.

For better or worse, they are at least making a concerted effort to right the ship which has been adrift for a while. I have more faith in WB Discovery/DCEU than I did in WB/DCEU.

I won't argue that. But they are actively doing something about it.

We might have had a cohesive DCEU right from the very start. For the most part they've just been throwing everything at the wall for the past decade to see what sticks. I grew up on DC Comics, I would really like to see them do justice to the brand theatrically while I'm still around.

Taiwan tong siang wan sui!

I think the LEGO movies really stand out as quality work on his resume, but yeah, the live-action stuff looks not super impressive. But it does show that he can wrangle blockbusters. And hey, if he has the passion to be pursuing this job for 14 years, more power to him.

Aside from Kevin Feige jumping ship, who exactly would those who are skeptical about this guy want in the role?

There were serious rumors that they were courting Greg Berlanti for the role.

Talk about dodging a freakin' bullet.

I thought James Gunn was talked about for a while.

re: Future DC Studios projects discussion thread - News, rumors, etc.

The issue is that Warners has, historically, been unable to understand what makes their DC properties work. They're content to hand them to actors and directors as star vehicles, they pass them off to producers who don't know shit from Shinola (Jon Peters with Superman and Sandman), and they don't seem to have much confidence in the characters on their own.

And when they attempted to emulate the MCU, they hit the panic button before Justice League was even released and basically scuttled the whole project.

They lack the will and patience to nurture and cultivate something like the MCU.

I wish Lin luck and hope he can pull it off, but Warners and Discovery don't give me much faith. While folks are cheering about Discovery refusing to release Batwoman because it is, apparently, a terrible movie, and purging the Arrowverse, there's nothing to indicate that the bean counters at Discovery will be able to allow anything better to get made and released.

Seems like we went through the same thing when Hamada got the job a few years ago.
