I have no interest in going to see this, but for those who have, does Marky Mark sing "The Touch" at any point during the movie?

"Feel My Heat" is a superior song.

Re: Transformers: Age of Extinction (Bay, 2014) — The Reviews Thread
Saw this tonight and came away disappointed. The trailers made it look decent but goddamn, editor...anyone? I enjoyed the first hour and a half but the second hour and 15 minutes was a fucking trudge to get through. Marky Mark did the best he could with what he was given but I thought he was pretty bad in this...and he was the best actor in the movie. Everyone keeps mentioning that Tucci was great but I thought his "humorous" lines fell flat for the most part. Though I did think he had the best line of the movie with
Spoiler:
Actually, almost every bit of the humor in this movie fell flat and that really burned because they tried to put so much in it. And the action. Lord, the action. I love action as much as the next guy but this was sheer action pornography. After seeing the 1200th car explode, I wanted to fall asleep (and that that was only halfway through). It honestly reminded me of how I felt watching Man Of Steel. Just action for action's sake. I desperately wanted this movie to end as much as I wanted MOS to end...mainly because I wanted to like both movies. But the longer both of these movies played, the more I found myself sitting there disliking them every minute they drug on. But my 10 year old loved it. He was totally into it the whole way and really, that's what these movies are for...10 year old boys. So, it is what it is. I loved the first Transformers movie, hated the second, thought the third was okay, and disliked this one the longer it played. The effects were superb as usual but they unfortunately wore out their welcome by the 90 minute mark. That makes for a very long 75 minutes that remained. The story was poor. I bump the movie half a star just because the effects were so good. On every other level though, this movie failed. My rating: **1/2 out of ***** |
Re: Transformers: Age of Extinction (Bay, 2014) — The Reviews Thread
I crawled out of the theater managing to sit through the whole thing. I expect TF5 to be 8 hours long. I'm not a Bay fan, but if he would ever learn how to edit his movies, they'd be so much better. Just like the last 2, there is way too much bloated garbage in this film. Honestly, part 4 of a Transformers movie needs to be 160 minutes long? I saw it just a few hours ago and I've already forgotten the action scenes. They just sort of blend in together and nothing really stands out. It would be nice if someone like Matt Reeves would take on the series, but I doubt he'd want to follow Bay's stench. And with Dawn of the POTA getting rave reviews, I want him back for part 3 of that series.
Part 4 is better than the last 2 films which shouldn't have been a tough task. Tucci, Wahlberg, and The Man in Black do provide some much needed acting chops. The effects again are top notch and Lockdown was a pretty bad ass villain. Unfortunately, Galvatron's extended cameo was completely worthless. I also hated the way he transformed. If Bay is back for part 5, I think I'll wait for video. I've survived 4 of these in the theater, but someone else is going to have to take over for me to risk another theatrical viewing. |

I caught this Saturday night and holy Christ I think I had a grand mal seizure or three with all the shit on the screen. I have no idea what I saw but I know it wasn't good. I did have to laugh at the gigantic robot dinosaurs just meandering back into the woods of China after completely fucking up the entire metro area.

Re: Transformers: Age of Extinction (Bay, 2014) — The Reviews Thread
My 12 year old loved it, and I expected to be entertained. But as others have said, the run-time made it a chore to slog though. Even with all the constant action and explosions, I actually caught myself dozing off midway though. :boring:

even amongst all the destruction and outlandish loudness - I was drifting slightly during AoE the other day. personally I thought the IMAX version was interesting - got used to spastic aspect ratio changing bit. But goddamn was it loud, so loud in fact I put my hands over my ears. The Dolby Atmos version though was probably the best in terms of one) the mixers using the sound palette to such insane fantastic effect - notably during the China scene where the over head ceiling speakers where kickin' it. two) the volume wasn't as migrane inducing as the IMAX 5.0 soundmix. |
Re: Transformers: Age of Extinction (Bay, 2014) — The Reviews Thread
Finally saw it last night.
In a series of movies where the bar is exceedingly low, it's the 2nd best after Dark of the Moon. Miles better than the monstrous abortion of a trainwreck that is Revenge of the Fallen and easily better than the shit show that is the first movie, where the only virtue is that it's better than ROTF. All the major points have been said, but yes, it needs an editor to shave 45 minutes off (I vote to cut the entire sequence on Lockdown's ship). And the fact that the Dinobots were NOT the product of scans of dinosaurs back in prehistoric times if fucking ridiculous. And they blew past that "Prime as a knight" thing that if you looked at your popcorn twice you would have missed all of that. *sigh* - in the hands of a better director this series really could have been something. |
Re: Transformers: Age of Extinction (Bay, 2014) — The Reviews Thread
The only way I would watch a Bay-directed sequel of this is if I saw it for free and I didn't spend any time watching it. Aside from being locked into a time-stopping chamber, the only other example I can think of is being on an airplane. So, during some transatlantic flight in 2018, I expect to see TF5.
