During a fight scene in Hong Kong, the Willis Tower is visible in the background between two buildings. Next to it is what appears to be 311 S Wacker, the building next to the Willis Tower in Chicago.
Michael Bay is a genius.

As a fan of two of the previous TRANSFORMERS films I really should see this. The DVD was on sale at FYE for $12.99, but then I saw very nicely priced box sets of "The Munsters" (2nd season, with the two Munster theatrical features) and Season 3 of "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea," so TRANSFORMERS 4 went off my radar. Sorry, Mr. Bay. -ptth-

TRANSFORMERS 4 is referenced in an article in today's New York Times about a street vendor who participated in the Hong Kong protests:

He is not, he boasts, the stock profile of the pro-democracy demonstrators who have rattled this global financial capital for nearly two weeks. While the students leading the protest across the harbor cite theories of civil disobedience and quote Gandhi, Mr. Chan is apt to describe his anger with Beijing in terms of the latest “Transformers” movie, in which a benevolent China defends Hong Kong from evil metallic aliens.

“The movie bowed to Beijing,” he said with disgust. “I love ‘Transformers,’ but the last one I couldn’t stand.”

Now I know why I didn't go see it: I didn't want to support Communist China.

Actually, the Central Government doesn't do shit in the movie. They say they're going to defend Hong Kong and scramble jets. You see one or two jets flying around but they never engage any Decepticons. Then you see them flying towards Lockdown's ship and it sounds like they are firing at it but you don't really see anything because it is way in the distance and the shot lasts all of 5 seconds.

The first paragraph of the Film Crit Hulk review (the one about the vagina creature in the cage) perfectly encapsulates my feelings on this film and as Michael Bay as a director (full disclosure - when I was in high school and saw the first Bad Boys film, I kind of enjoyed it). As I was watching that scene, I couldn't believe what I was seeing and after watching the movie, I immediately looked up to see if anyone else had the same take as me and found that review. The only positives that I could find in the entire film were the introductions of Galvatron and the Dinobots...not because they were handled well in the film, but because it rekindled warm memories of playing with those particular toys as a kid.

I'll be honest, even after re-watching that scene with the mindset that people think it looks like a vagina, you people have either seen some fucked up vaginas or never seen one at all. That creature reminds me instead of the monster at the end of Howard The Duck. I think it was called the Overlord but I'm not sure since it's been many years since I last saw that flick.

Finally watched this last night. This is my second favorite Transformers movie. Loved the 1st, hated the second so much I skipped the third. From reading other posts it sounds like 3 wasn't that bad.

But man the dialogue is really cringe worthy close to 2s dialogue. I mean WTF was that long ass explanation the daughters bf gave to Wahlberg?!

finally got around to watching this
they're afraid of aliens so they work with one who is openly evil vs the autobots who have a proven record of trying to protect people?

the good:
Peter Cullen stayed on
Prime was the correct type of semi
Bumble bee was a vintage camaro
the dinobots were decent

the bad:
prime didn't stay the right kind of semi
bumble bee went back to being a lame new camaro
too many other things to list
