When I finally see this abortion, I am going the way the good lord Michael Bay intended. IMAX 3D.

You know, since 60% of it was shot with an IMAX 3D camera. ;)

So is this a good re-jumping on point? I saw the first one, completely despised the second one(seriously it's in my worst movies ever list) and never saw the third due to my opinion of the second.

You give a fuck about plot with a Bay TF flick?

The third is miles better than the second one, but I suppose that's not saying much.

I know about 3. But didn't it like have a 40ish minute gap of just BS?

hanshotfirst1138 06-28-14 03:03 PM

They all do, the runtimes are very unwieldy.

I thought TF1 was alright for the most part. That one kept going for the most part in keeping a steady pace.

TF2 was just a mess.

Saw it. You'd think I would have learned by now. Fourth time around I got no one to blame but myself.

I am guessing the creators are
Spoiler:
the Quintessons

If you thought Michael Bay tried to put too much into both Pearl Harbor and Bad Boys 2, you haven't seen nothing yet.

That's like a quote to put on the BD/DVD.

Just got back from this a little over an hour ago. I thought it was okay for the most part. Wahlberg was pretty good as the lead and I liked Kelsey Grammer as the villain. The other human characters were just so-so though. Also I thought Goodman stood out as the voice of Hound. The Dinobots were cool too and obviously the film had great action. I will say though the film was too damn long. It easily could have cut some stuff and made a decent two hour or so film. Not my favorite entry in the series but not the worst either. I haven't watched the other three films in a while but I'd probably rank them as follows.

Transformers
Transformers: Dark of the Moon
Transformers: Age of Extinction
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

Saw this Thursday night and it was fucking garbage. What was the point of the Dinobots? They were huge, so where the fuck were they hiding for who knows how long? They came in for 90 seconds and then they were gone and they didn't talk and had no names.

I do think Tucci and the dude from Silicon Valley were cool but that's about it. That girl that played the daughter is an awful actress.

Was that Fan Bingbing as the Chinese department head of whatever? I like how dressed her up in a skimpy outfit towards the end when she was in the elevator.

Lockdown was the best transformer in the film.

No. That was Li Bingbing. I cannot believe she is already 41 years old.

As for the IMAX 3D, I saw it in a real old school IMAX theater (Chicago Navy Pier) and it did not fill up the WHOLE screen the way film IMAX presentations do. Which honestly was fine the way it was hopping back and forth between aspect ratios in the middle of scenes! It's like Michael Bay didn't bother to get reverse shots or coverage with the IMAX camera's.

On a positive note, the movie does get a star from me on the fact that it lacks Sam Witwicky and his parents.

I actually liked his parents. I wouldn't mind seeing them again
Spoiler:
during Sam's funeral.

The dino-bots where in prison on Lockdown's ship. That's why no one saw them. Yes, they probably should've had some lines to say and shit. But at least they made an appearance. Lockdown was a total badass too.

They were prisoners on Lockdown's ship... At least the part that broke away from the big ship... and the had probably been there for awhile.

More like I don't want to spend almost three hours watching a movie which dos nothing but reference a movie I hate and one I never bothered to watch because I hated the second one.

Anyone else noticed that Lockdown kept
Spoiler:
Ratchet's spark rather than destroy it? Given how Prime mentioned that sparks contain their memories, I think they left the door open for Ratchet's return (and that of any other Autobots killed offscreen) in the next installment).

I liked it. Knowing the running time going in, I knew the movie was going to be too long. Wahlberg is solid, and Prime actually feels like a costar and less of a guest star.

I still think we could just step away from the human character stories at this point, as no one really cares about them who see these movies. But I guess they're there to make sure the budgets these movies have aren't $300-400 million I suppose.

Re: Transformers: Age of Extinction (Bay, 2014) — The Reviews Thread

This was worlds better than the last two, but that's not saying a lot. The standard Michael Bay stuff is here, but at least the comedy doesn't feel too out of place this time and the story is coherent for once. Plus I didn't have to suffer through Shia LeBouf antics.

I think so. They reference events from part 3, but I've honestly forgotten the story details of the last two and it was still easy to follow.

A co-worker of mine wants to take his girlfriend to see this one and asked me if he should show her the first three beforehand in case she'd get lost not knowing what came before. Honestly, much like the third movie, it's better to ignore the films that came before since series continuity is out the window in this one (as it was in the third one).

Spoiler:
For a guy who never heard of the Fallen (or the 13 Primes) or knew the origin of the Allspark Cube, Optimus Prime sure as hell knew exactly who the "Creators" (either Primacron or the Quintessons) were and even claimed to be one of the Knights of Legend when he issued his right of challenge to Grimlock and the Dinobots. That was a major WTF issue for me.

So it's best to simply view this as if it were the very first movie in the franchise and instead of telling an origin or arrival story, it tells the story of the aftermath of the battles between the Autobots and Decepticons on Earth.
