I'm on the fence and pretty ambivalent about the movie. I don't have a great need to see it. I'm not even sure if I saw the last one  I semi-enjoyed the first movie, thought the second one was awful, and didn't think much of the third one, either (although it was better than the second). |
Re: Transformers: Age of Extinction (Bay, 2014) — The Reviews Thread
It's a bit long in the tooth but I had a good time watching this movie. Stanley Tucci steals every scene he's in.
My only gripes (other than the length) are the fact that the Dinobots are barely present (and only Spike is mentioned by name), Grimlock versus Prime is almost entirely in the trailer, it lags in parts, I didn't care for how the Decepticons transform in this one, and Galvatron's master plan felt like a last minute addition. Still, overall a fun time and I look forward to owning the BD. By the way, I love Frank Welker as Galvatron. They should have had him voicing Megatron from the start. Also, John Goodman, John DiMaggio, and Ken Watanabe were a hoot. I also liked the new designs for the Transformers. |

I'm talking about this guy. In the 1980s, Welker voiced many recurring characters in the original Transformers animated series. He voiced several Decepticons, including the leader Megatron, Soundwave, Skywarp, Mixmaster, Laserbeak, Buzzsaw, Rumble, Frenzy, Ravage and Ratbat, as well as Autobots Mirage, Trailbreaker, Chromedome and Sludge. With the release of The Transformers: The Movie in 1986, he took on the role of the Autobot Wheelie and afterwards, took over the role of Galvatron (which coincidentally was voiced by his Star Trek III castmate Leonard Nimoy). Welker also returned to two of his Transformers roles when he portrayed Megatron and Soundwave as part of a spoof in the third season episode of Robot Chicken, aired shortly after the release of the live action film. In Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, he reprises the roles of Soundwave and Ravage, and also provides voices for Grindor, Devastator and Reedman. He does not voice Megatron in any of the three live action films (Hugo Weaving was chosen for the role, instead). However, Welker did voice Megatron in the two video games based on the first two films as well as the theme park attractions at Universal Studios Singapore, Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Studios Florida, Transformers: The Ride. Welker also reprised the roles of Megatron and Soundwave in the series Transformers: Prime, (retitled Transformers: Prime – Beast Hunters for its third season). He voiced Shockwave, Barricade and Soundwave in the film Transformers: Dark of the Moon, and Galvatron in Transformers: Age of Extinction, adding to his already large list of roles within the Transformers franchise. http://collider.com/wp-content/uploa...llen-slice.jpg |

I saw the first hour and 10 minutes this morning before power went out at the theater. They couldn't restart the film, so I ended up with a readmission ticket. Should I be thankful, or should I check out the final 95 minutes?

Re: Transformers: Age of Extinction (Bay, 2014) — The Reviews Thread
This the strictest definition of popcorn flick so far this year. While it was a bit long, it was pretty well paced except for a few parts which lagged or felt really repetitious... kinda like we had seen the exact same thing in the three previous flicks.
The acting didn't bother me and like RocShemp said, Stanley Tucci outshines everyone. My favorite part of the movie? Any scene with HOUND (voiced by John Goodman). I would have loved to have seen him in the previous films. My least favorite part of the movie? The way that the evil noob-bots transformed (which kinda reminded me of the Smoke Monster in LOST). I walked in with looooow expectations (on a free ticket for picking up DotM for $10 at Costco last week) so I can't say it was a waste of money or time, but it was entertaining and I (regretfully) enjoyed it. Three out of Five stars for me. ... and I'll probably see the next one (which is strongly hinted at) whenever it comes out. |

I'll end up seeing it next weekend over the holiday. It's mindless action... just not sure about the length.

Wasn't Frank Welker the highest-paid actor in Hollywood at some point? The man must just not sleep, he has like 900 credits, he's in every cartoon ever made and approximately half of the live-action movies.

The length is not bad... thank god for the nearly non-stop action. Like someone said this is the definition on a popcorn summer movie. I had a blast (pun intended) watching it. Im like a little kid at Christmas when Optimus is on screen and auto-bots are fighting. The Dino-bots look bad fucking ass and love how they where twice the size of normal auto-bots. |

Just in from watching this, in a very empty theater for a 640pm showing in SF here.
I liked it until the battle scenes, while visually amazing and I'm stunned with what can be done with graphics, and it was pretty fun - Tucci was a blast. I love me some Wahlberg, in almost anything. His daughter sucked. 6/10 |

If you actually pay money to see this then you can never complain about the state and quality of films being released today. Ever.

-- Please tell us what movies are worth our time... please! Im sure anyone with half a brain will go to these type of movies just for the fun part and leave any sense of story/acting at the damn door. My son liked it and so did I... that alone was worth the price of admission. |
Re: Transformers: Age of Extinction (Bay, 2014) — The Reviews Thread
Yeah, no one goes to a Bay movie for intellectual ruminations about inner turmoil of man in the face of his own mortality. You watch a Bay movie for shit to go BOOM. Going to see one of these movies just to bitch about them is more an indictment on that viewer than the film itself.

Re: Transformers: Age of Extinction (Bay, 2014) — The Reviews Thread
The way the noob rebots transformed just seemed like a budget cutting manuever. In fact, alot of shots used objects to hide transformations and whatnot. I wonder if they ran over budget somewhere. Overall I was really disappointed (and I like Michael Bay movies and the original trilogy). This thing got destroyed in the editing room though. The whole idea of a three act structure was nowhere to be found. Also, the dinobots were cool....for the 77 seconds they were on screen.

I had NO INTENTION of seeing this movie, ever... but now I'm going to pay full price for premium XD seating, just to piss EctoCooler off :)

Re: Transformers: Age of Extinction (Bay, 2014) — The Reviews Thread
Going to try to see this Monday. Working back to back 3am shift this weekend and even though it sounds like it's slam bang action galore, I'm going to be way too tired to know what the hell is going on.
I saw the 1st Hunger Games movie right after getting off a 3am to 12pm shift and fell asleep through 80% of the movie. Question, Is IMAX 3D the way to go for this? Or did all of you who did see it stick with 2D? |
