This guy turns up out of nowhere. Shoots guns and kills bad guys. You go around the world but not quite sure why.

I caught this this week and enjoyed it thoroughly.
I was willing to accept the ending because of course it needs to be happy but I had a long car ride yesterday and was thinking about it and it might be more logical than it seemed initially.
They establish that the time jumps happen when he is sleeping. So he must be unconscious to jump, and the assumption is that he doesn't sleep the night before the invasion. Waking up on the base is the first point he can jump to.
Now we're getting into time paradox shit, but in this movie everything is linear. They keep jumping back to a point and then moving forward again. But when Cage kills the Omega, he dies himself, absorbing the Omega at the moment of death like he did the Alpha. So he jumps one last time, but he is now the Omega. The Omega ceases to exist (the flash of energy the general mentions during the press conference) when Cage wakes up on the helicopter...which is the first point he can jump to that has nothing to do with the Omega. He hasn't entered the fight yet. If he wakes up on the base again, the only reason he is there is because the invasion is happening. The death of the Omega sends Cage back down the timeline to the first point of unconsciousness that has nothing to do with the Omega and that also destroys the Omega because there can be only one Omega in this world.
Ugh...time travel
Basically it works for me because if he's going to jump one last time, jumping him to the base makes no sense because the only reason he's on the base is because they are going to war. So it needs to jump him back further to a point where he wasn't going to war (because he has already won it) and the helicopter is that place.

D'OH, beat me to it. Came here to post the same news. Yeah, this movie crawled it's way to the 100M line, no? Other than "Mission Impossible", it's the first Tom Cruise movie to do so in the U.S. since 2005's "War of the Worlds". I don't count "Tropic Thunder" since he didn't headline.

Glad it finally got to $100 million. It's nice to see films that are actually good make some money for a change.
I think it'll do very well on video. I think it comes out in early October.

it's lower than its quality deserves but it's good enough.
Really enjoyed this one. The tagline should have been the title cuz that one pretty much tells ya what it's about.

Am I the only one who thinks Live. Die. Repeat. is a stupid-ass title? Edge of Tomorrow is much more appropriate for a sci-fi/action movie where the character is continually sent back.

I don't know if they could have gotten a title for this that didn't suck. Between that and All You Need is Kill, I'd take Edge of Tomorrow. But even then it's pretty lame.

I'm in the group that also thinks All You Need Is Kill is a better title than Edge of Tomorrow or Live. Die. Repeat.
As for the movie, I was really pleasantly surprised by it despite hearing a lot of praise for it. Just a lot of fun.

Good flick, though I'm not sure what WB is thinking with the name change for home video

Is that really the title of the film now? It's like WB wants to purposely lose money on the home video front. So strange. I'm beginning to believe someone at WB really hates Cruise.
