Thanks for answering my question about what this acronym means:

YAAWMWMT (Yet Another Apocalyptic Wasteland Movie With Mechanical Things)
As a result, that's how I voted in this poll.

P.S. Wait, I just remembered to check the thread with the acronym I actually asked about and it was: YAWTNOTMT

And the answer I got in the other thread was:

Yet another what's the name of that movie thread

Very entertaining. Lots of laughs, especially in the first half of the film, and yes, they were intentional. The aliens were interesting, and I thought the explanation for the time resets was interesting, as well.

Didn't really like the Mimics. Not quite sure the reasoning behind the name. They also resembled the things from the Matrix too much for my liking.
Loved the action scenes alot.

Blunt doing the yoga was a thing of beauty!

re: Edge of Tomorrow - Live, Die, Repeat (Liman, 2014) — The Reviews Thread

I was honestly expecting something along the line of Jumper, the last Liman film I saw in the theater (that was about as big as disappointments get).

Edge of Tomorrow is fast, fun, (intentionally) funny, and the best sci-fi action movie I've seen since Looper. The trailers make it seem like another Battle of LA but, without spoiling too much, the fighting scenes where Cruise is on a beach are a very small part of the movie.

I saw it in IMAX 3D, which added a bit to the film but not so much I would suggest to only see it in IMAX.

You have me conflicted since Looper is one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

You have to suspend disbelief in this movie and go along with the ride. The science (explained in the light novel) is not touched on in the movie. Ultimately it's a guy wearing an exosuit traveling through time (sort of) to fight aliens. If you don't find that idea fun, then this isn't a movie for you.

The trailers and the Groundhog Day vibe make me really look forward to this. It's your comparing it to Looper (which I hated) that gives me pause.

This is based on a book?

I had no clue that Liman did Looper. Hearing excellent things about this one, though.

He didn't. Looper was Rian Johnson.

Looper was fantastic. That said it doesn't look like The Bus really made a comparison between the two, its just a matter of how much your taste might line up with his if that was the last sci-fi movie he really enjoyed until this one

Groundhog Day is one of my all-time favorite films, I think it's near as dammit perfect, so anything involving a time-loop can't help but fall into its shadow. I loved Looper though.

Yeah, I didn't get all the love for LOOPER either...it had a decent first-half, but fell apart in the second half. Not the worst movie I've ever seen, but not one I'd ever want to watch again.

I'm probably going to see EDGE OF TOMORROW just because there's nothing else on the radar this weekend...I've already seen X-Men, Spidey, and Godzilla, and have no desire to see Maleficent, A Million Days to Die in the West, or The Fault in Our Stars (which MAY do better than Tom Cruise this weekend, given that's the big 'teenybopper' flick this weekend).

Apparently the novel The Fault in Our Stars is really good.

That's what I've heard too, but I don't see the movie being huge out the gate, maybe $20m opening which is high for that kind of flick.

Edge of Tomorrow currently has a 91% on rottentomatoes (Fault has 90%... 22 Jump Street has 93%)

I noticed Edge of Tomorrow is also playing in 3D. I'm guessing it's another conversion.

It's really great. Unexpectedly dark humor. Never read the book, but thought the story was engaging. Liked the idea of a cowardly hero. McQuarrie knows how to write for Cruise, especially the humor side.. I'm one of the few that really liked "Jack Reacher," and this screenplay is even better. One of my favorite movies of 2014 so far.

Just think of it as "Groundhog D-Day."

Yeah, I just found out via Wikipedia. So I guess the original shitty title is the result of a poor translation? Yes, the current title sounds like a daytime soap opera but that previous title...

That was pretty much my problem as well. A solid first half (despite revolving around flimsy "science") but once the kid got introduced, the movie just grinds to a halt while you're waiting for a predictable (and, frankly, stupid) ending.

I much preferred when it was just Bruce Willis versus Joseph Gordon-Levitt with the added twist that Willis has already lived through whatever Gordon-Levitt is about to do.

Groundhog Day meets Starship Troopers is what one critic said.

I didn't think Jack Reacher was awful but the screenplay was hilariously bad, I hope there's less of that here.

And they're releasing it on the 70th anniversary of D-Day.

And for those that did enjoy Looper it sounds like this will be equally good and fun.
