Also, the movie never used the word "god" but "creator" is used over and over and over and is clearly referring to the Judeo-Christian conception of god.

Did you see the IMAX presentation?

I am thinking of checking it out tomorrow afternoon at my nearest IMAX before Winter Soldier gives it the heave-ho on Friday.

The movie is very against my religious beliefs, and removed God from the story! I cannot understand how they could do this.

Did you see the film? God is most definitely in it.

Just got back from this and it was pretty damn entertaining. It was also very LOTR-esque and I do think Russell Crowe gives a great performance.

The Creator = God.

I've seen that complaint a few times about taking God out of it, and I'm just curious if we all saw the same movie?

Re: Noah (Aronofsky, 2014) — The Reviews Thread

My friend saw the film and liked it a lot. I like this paragraph from his review.

On the surface, Noah has some concepts that I found to be awesome. How does one man build a giant wooden ark, serviceable enough to contain every animal and survive a huge flood? He is given help from beings known as “Watchers”. The Watchers are huge stone creatures that were once angels. Here is a way to say that the film is definitely rooted in the fantastical. While the posters want to suggest a dark and gritty Noah movie (which the film technically is), it is not one that is rooted in reality. The visual effects may not be flawless when it comes to showing us two of every creature, but the Watchers are the kind of out-there visual that provides Noah with its own identity, breaking it away from the traditional biblical epic.

Where hell did you see this on film?! Did he shoot this one on celluloid? I thought this was when he'd finally started shooting digitally.

Just because something is shot digital doesn't mean it can't be projected in 35 mm. But I doubt there are any 35 mm engagements of Noah in that format.

What's confusing? You can transfer digital images to film stock.

I do too, that's why I wondered where he'd seen it if he had.

You can transfer a film shot digitally to celluloid. I can't see it being done for distribution purposes, but from what I understand, digital storage is actually a pretty big issue right now, and it's a much safer bet to store a digitally-shot film on 35mm to archive it.

I'm assuming the IMAX version of this is just a marketing thing with a new sound mix? Wasn't shot in the format, I don't think.

Of course you do. You could make it a double feature and go see God's Not Dead as well.

I'm going to pass on "God's Not Dead" because it looks horrible. The writers of that movie apparently used religious arguments that 12 year-olds came up with to stump each other. See any of the threads in the Religion/Politics section to see how quickly those same stupid arguments fare in real life.

True Detective had a single 90 second scene in it that blasts that movie out of the water in terms of theological debating.

I am imagining Noah walking around the Ark looking at all the animals trying to decide what is for dinner.

Chickens look around and notice there are several hundred of them but only two of all other species and realize they are f*cked.

Also, people complained when Peter Jackson turned the Hobbit into a trilogy so where is the outrage about Aronofsky taking a story that is practically 6 sentences long and stretching it into a 2 plus hour film?

Don't watch the show... Yet. But what was the scene?

You need to see their conversations leading up to that one. Great stuff.

I'm assuming the writer is an atheist?

I know you can transfer to film. He said you can "project it to 35mm" and that phrase confused me.

No he didn't. He wrote "projected in 35mm." You even quoted his post.

Why would you assume that? Did you only hear one side of the conversation? Are writers only allowed to write characters who believe as they do?
