He was a quintessential example of That Guy, one of those actors who is only ever referred to as, "He was that guy in that movie where he did the thing with the other guy," yet everyone knows who you're talking about. Kinda like Jeffrey Jones and everyone who ever played a vice president on 24.

He'll always be the "Sir, that's not entirely accurate" guy from Independence Day to me.

Always like him, though he did look frail in Homeland S3. Bad year for actors who appeared in both Talented Mr. Ripley and Scent of a Woman.

Nah. To me, he will alway be the "we provide, whatever's lacking" guy from The Game.

We've lost a lot of great character actors. Ed Lauter, Brion James, J. T. Walsh, Paul Gleason, and now James Rebhorn.

Somebody keep any eye on William Fichtner and Chris Cooper.

I like The Game about a million times more than ID4, but even when I was watching it I thought "hey that's the guy from Independence Day!".

Knew just by the name, he'll always be the "What, lit?!" guy from Cat's Eye; RIP.

Knew the name and the face, sad news. First saw him in Blank Check back in the day.

According to the NY Times obit, he relished those few parts he got where he didn't have to wear a suit.
