Story and character details for Ridley Scott's ALIEN: COVENANT have been hard to come by, however we do know that the film takes place 10 years after the events from PROMETHEUS, with Michael Fassbender reprising his role as David the android, while INHERENT VICE's Katherine Waterston is playing Daniels, the captain of the Covenant spaceship.
Last month we got the first look at Waterston as Daniels, and now The Playlist is claiming that they have some new info on her character. I'd treat this as just a rumor for the time being, but the identity of the character has since been removed from the report at the request of the studio, so there's a very good chance that the site's scoop is legit.

Yeah. I'm not comfortable w/ that. That just muddy's an overall narrative for that character. It doesn't hurt the character in her isolated series but the overall expansion of that is bullshit.
I saw that news earlier but thought it was just some bs clickbait rumor from another site.

When i read that alleged plot point earlier today i groaned. I do not understand why they seem to try to hold on to the character of Ripley in any way so much in this series. I was more than happy to see a new character take on the hero role (glad though that Noomi Rapace's character isn't going to be that one....felt her character was paper thin in that movie), not having to go back to the Ellen Ripley well or lineage.
I am on the fence about this movie. I am sure it will make up for a lot of the problems of Prometheus, but the most interesting thing about that movie (the Engineers) might not be of much significance in this outing, which would be a damn shame. Instead i get the feeling it will be more of a return to the usual Alien style movie.

Since Shaw is not in it I hope they go into some sort of detail as to what happens to her. 10 years after and what happened to her? Did she find "Paradise?"

Bottomline: Ridley Scott can make a mediocre script look really good on screen, but he damn sure won't fix its issues.
Also, I think Prometheus takes place only about 30 or 40 years before Alien, so Ripley would be alive at this point I'm sure.

Or maybe the film ends with Waterston giving birth and the doctor says, "What will you name her?" And Waterston breathlessly says "Ellen" and starts crying with joy. The camera zooms in on the baby, who CGI smiles to the camera before turning ghoulish and leaping out at the screen. Cut to credits.
That's about the level of quality I'd expect from this film.

If they wanted to tie in Ripley, I would have preferred a spinoff movie where Ellen's daughter goes to look for her and fights xenomorphs nearby LV426.She would succeed, but figured Ripley dead only to return and live her life out.

Finally! A retcon that eliminates the first three crappy Alien movies and goes straight to Alien: Resurrection! Ripley's mom will be (bitten/raped/impregnated/scared by) an Alien which will explain why Ripley is half human and half alien.

Info is on lockdown, so we’ll have to wait for the film to be released August 4, 2017 by Fox to see how it all worked out.
