She's going to end up on a sitcom?

Are either of you familiar with the careers of Julia Roberts and Sandra Bullock?
Julia who? Is she related to Emma?

TV doesn't quite have the stigma of past, I'm just saying she'll probably be back on a sitcom (likely as a guest) eventually.

re: Elliot Page discussion thread (formerly Ellen Page)

I like Ellen Page just fine and think she is a very good actress, but can anyone here be honest: She doesn't have much of a career and she never will.

Simple reason: She is not very attractive, and is certainly not sexy.

I think Page is cute, but she is pushing 30 and has the body of a 14 year old.
She is not going to be cast as the female lead in an adult romance because just the visual is unsettling. If she were cast as the love interest of Leonardo DiCaprio, he would look like a pedophile. Even as the star of a drama, Hollywood likes its leading ladies to have some sexual heat.

I'm glaad that she could come out and give herself some personal peace of mind, but it won't effect her career.

I got that vibe when I saw Inception.

And that is where their careers ended.

So sad to imagine that these once so famous actresses will be sitting home on March 2nd, watching the Oscars from afar, wondering how it was that their once promising careers as movie stars went so far off the rails.

Good for her. Coming out publicly is always a tough decision to make, and I applaud her for doing so, because despite the protestations of some members in this thread, homosexuality is far from normalized. It is still very much marginalized, and having positive role models is essential for gay people.

That being said, I've never considered Page to be a good actress (competent at best), and this does nothing to change that perception.

Good points, but I'm looking ahead a few years. Julia and Sandra have both aged very well and maintained the sources of their appeal and chosen their star vehicles very well. My instincts tell me Jennifer won't age as well. She doesn't have the facial structure or body type for it. I believe she's smart enough to adjust her career accordingly and will continue working, but not as a star.

Dooku, I think Page is 26. I'd be careful when telling women in their mid-twenties that they're "pushing 30."

If you can dodge a wrench....

You can do the Mom test (I think she's in her late 50s):

I thought Ellen Page was pretty sexy in Super. The earliest thing I've seen her in is Trailer Park Boys.

I could have said the same thing about Anne Hathaway or Michelle Williams, and they seem to have done fine.

On the other hand, Lawrence does remind me of Leelee Sobieski, who I thought would have a much better career than she's had. So I guess anything is possible.

The fact that everyone could tell she was gay, when she was apparently trying to conceal it, does not say much for her acting ability.

I don't know how to look at a beautiful young woman and judge how she will age.

Here's a bunch of modeling pictures from when Lawrence was a teenager in Kentucky. Maybe Angelina Jolie wouldn't be envious of her facial structure, but I imagine most actresses would be.

Spoiler:
Now I see. You think she is going to pull a Colleen Camp

Facial type, bone structure, the mom test, pushing 30, will age well/won't age well.

It fucking blows my mind that a bunch of grown ass men are having this conversation.

The one thing going against JLaw though is that she is a smoker and thats what really hurts someone aging wise. Beyond that though I think she has very distinct strong facial features like a Helen Mirren and has the genes to age nicely albeit with a little maintanince like every 40+ star gets.

Hey, if I was any good at this, I'd be Lawrence and Page's agent. Instead I'm a member of DVD Talk. Remember, just five years ago I was the one who thought Megan Fox was the best thing to come along since Marilyn Monroe. We've seen how well that worked out.

Always found Sobieski's acting style to be pretty stiff. It's the curse of having perfect diction...makes her sound unnatural to the rest of us slobs.

Shame no one ever cast her as Helen Hunt's daughter, but that would probably be too obvious.

Well, now they can play sisters!
