Re: Elliot Page discussion thread (formerly Ellen Page)
I will never forget the first time I had a trans girl patient like 15 years ago. She was like seven. She was very nice and happy, but she was insistent she was a girl. Didn't want anyone to call her a boy. She would cry and say "I'm a girl!". And that's when it hit me and I finally understood. Clearly that's not a sexual desire thing. And it's not driven by the intention to compete in girl's athletics. Sometimes what a person just knows their gender is just isn't what their chromosomes say they are. And you know what? That's okay. Why force them to live their life a lie just because you feel it's better? How does that benefit them?
I am proud of Elliot for speaking out, and helping others understand. No matter how much I enjoyed Juno (and I loved that movie), I'm happier knowing he is living his best life now. Was a little sad to hear he got divorced already.

I listened to a great interview with a clinician who specializes in transgender kids and there was some good discussion about some of the misconceptions. Really interesting.

Edit: Even though that trailer says it’s on Netflix, I don’t see listed. Either way, search it out.

It'd be on Disney+ now due to Nat Geo.

Clothing and haircut aren't the best choice, he looks like it's the first day of kindergarten, but that's the prerogative of men, no one asks you who are you wearing.

Gender is a social construct - 99% of the things we associate with gender are culturally created and the rest aren't significant enough to matter.
Elliot Page is a man. Caitlin Jenner is a woman. Chelsea Manning is a woman. Autumn Burchett is a woman.
This is such a simple thing we can do to respect our fellow humans.

It should only matter how we treat people, much more than what our personal beliefs may be. Do I actually think Elliot is a man? Of course not, but I'm more than happy to address a person by whatever they prefer.

An outdated and simplistic view of life, borne of centuries of repression by patriarchal and religious oppression.

My opinion: I hope for every human being to be happy, be whatever they want to be and cause no harm to others.

If urrutiap is one end of the spectrum, then you are the complete other end. Guess what? Both of you can be right. Why? Because everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Nobody is saying you have to date them or ask them into your home for drinks, but instead we are asking that they be treated with the same respect as everyone else. That includes using their proper pronouns.

Re: Elliot Page discussion thread (formerly Ellen Page)
Spoiler alert: You’ve probably called a trans person by their preferred pronoun and not even realized it.

I always liked Page. And truly hope he's happy now. I also hope he can continue finding work as an actor.

Re: Elliot Page discussion thread (formerly Ellen Page)
pretty sure Ellen Page is continuing to be an actress. Shes been in that Umbrella Academy show on Netflix where Hollywood actors and actresses go instead of ending up in a bad sci fi movie that ends up on the Sy Fy Channel

He will continue to be an actor because there are creative types that can not only accept changes like this but can use them to deepen their stories and make them more meaningful.
