Re: Indiana Jones 5 - News, Rumors, Casting, etc...
The problem w/ recasting Indy is that Indy is Ford. Not just cuz he has the role. But so much of that body language and character is Harrison Ford. Watch the guy in other things. Much like Han Solo... it's all Ford. That's a bigger issue than Bond, as stated, moved on and on. If you recast than what you're getting is someone mimicking Harrison Ford literally.
I know some people want to say "he's just an actor, anyone can do those parts." Certainly. But would any other actor have come up with "I know," or the scene where Indy blows away the swordsman, or ad-libbed the "situation normal, how are you" scene? Harrison Ford did all of that. He made these roles what they are and they are some awfully big shoes to fill. They are as perfect a match between actor and part as there has ever been I think.
One could argue that nobody really ever filled Sean Connery's tuxedo, but that would be another thread.

Umm...four other actors have already played Indiana Jones. What's the big deal with recasting a younger version of him...we've already had three younger versions of him!

Because they don't give a damn about when he's a "kid" (generalizing it here). They give a great damn about Indiana Jones, the man. The man is Harrison Ford. Han and Indy wouldn't be the Han and Indy we know now if it wasn't Harrison Ford. Ford is a narratively and visually strong factor to how the characters have come to be in the flesh. It's a lot of the man in those roles. If someone takes over for Ford playing Indy as the man... then they're just copying Ford essentially.
also.... is that Guillermo Arriaga in your avatar?

Part of the problem with recasting is that Indiana Jones doesn't fit the sliding timescale the way James Bond does. Crystal Skull stretched it to the breaking point with Indiana Jones in the 1950s.
The character works best in the 1930s and 40s. So do they just try to fill in the blanks between the three films in that era? The adventures of those decades would start to get pretty convoluted.

Looks like Mitch Pileggi.

The flashback sequence in the third film aside, most of TV series isn't hugely well-known. I'm sure it has its fans, but if you went up to the average person on the street, most of them probably wouldn't even know about the TV show.

That doesn't stop it from still being lesser known of an entity today.
Again, nobody gives a damn about the "kid" Indy stuff. Cuz it doesn't matter compared to the actual meat and potatoes that is the Adult Man Indy.
Indy, much like Han Solo, is Harrison Ford. No way out of it. Not because he's owned the roles but because he put Harrison Ford into those characters. Harrison Ford was/is a lot like those guys cuz he put himself into those roles.

I'm not talking about that young Solo one. I'm talking about the man, the one that matters. The young Solo or whatever flick is different than recasting for an Adult Indy.

just posting this again. because it's awesome, and it's the only way Indy or Han Solo should be recast. I mean, fuck... it doesn't get any better than that.

Is he actually a good actor though? I saw him in Age of Adeline but there really wasn't much for him to do there aside from looking like a younger Ford.

I don't know what people see in that guy. I don't think he sounds like Ford at all.

He doesn't sound like Ford at all. He has the facial expressions down pat though. But it's just an imitation. I'd rather get someone who can channel the spirit of the character, whether it be Han Solo or Indiana Jones, versus just the look on the character's face.

I think that guy is a decent choice. But I completely agree.

Where are you with Indiana Jones 5?
We're all trying to figure out when the right time is to step back in. Harrison really wants to do it; Steven really wants to do it. We've kicked around a couple of story ideas, but beyond that, I don't know yet. I think there will be one, we'll certainly move forward with Indy. But right now, everybody's just focused on Star Wars.

It would actually be a legit time for them to rework the Indiana Jones Chronicles and have him reprise the elder Indy, coupled with flashbacks. That or have him focus on teaching, find a promising student, and pass along the adventure.

If it means ending the series with a better film than Crystal Skull, I'm all for it. If there is a torch passing scenario thats probably where i'll leave the series.

The next Indy should be set during the Kennedy Assassination. That seems like the right period, given Ford's age. He'd still be playing Indy a little younger than his actual age, but I think he's been doing that for every movie (Indy was only 58 in Crystal Skull, while Ford was around 65).
