As for Chrystal Skull, I think it was a decent story, I was good with Marion returning, I was even up for Mutt, but I think the biggest thing that hurts Crystal Skull is that the whole film just looks like it was shot on a sound stage. All the other films were known for filming around the world like Bond. It just had a CG and soulless feel to it.

Ford as Indy, Spielberg directing and get Lawrence Kasdan to write it.
Oh, and hire snipers to hide around the sets and locations to shoot on site if they see George Lucas.

Kind of a weird analogy but whatever I guess. I didn't say that he wasn't to blame at all and I think even he feels that way (he didn't outright say it but I get the sense that he sort of regrets it), but I think that the fact that he can at least acknowledge that it's not as good as the other films and that he realizes a lot of fans didn't like it is pretty telling. I pin more of the blame on Lucas because he hasn't been involved with a decent film since the 80s and seems blind to what fans want and is out to satisfy pretty much just himself. Spielberg while not always perfect has had a much better overall filmography that's spanned through to his more current films so I think he still has it in him to deliver another good Indiana Jones film.

It is a weird analogy, but the point is valid. "I'll take some blame, but my friends pressured me into making those choices." Now that the chips are down, he tries pointing the finger when he should have stood up or walked away. There was a time when Spielberg could do no wrong; now his filmography is filled with quite a bit of "meh."
To be honest, I didn't pay attention to the credits. KOTCS was so subpar I didn't even realize Spielberg directed it until we started discussing it here. To me, that actually a makes it more of an abomination. I assumed it was Lucas or some yes-man hack. Knowing that it was Spielberg places even higher expectations of quality.

I guess I still don't agree. Like I said he was part of it but at least can acknowledge it isn't the greatest film he's done. I don't think that washes the palette clean but I give him credit for being big enough to admit it wasn't that great.

For the June issue’s cover story on Star Wars, Vanity Fair’s Bruce Handy spoke at length with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy about things that take place in a galaxy far, far away. But in between filling our hearts with a new hope, Kennedy paused to throw a bone to the fans of another Harrison Ford vehicle: Indiana Jones.
While the further adventures of everyone’s favorite fedora-sporting professor have been anticipated ever since Disney and Paramount brokered a financial deal for “future films” back in 2012, this is the first official confirmation from Kennedy and the House of Mouse. Handy writes of the 2012 deal between Disney and Lucasfilm:
In buying the company, Disney also got rights, for better or worse, to less-storied Lucasfilm properties, among them Willow and Radioland Murders. A bigger prize is the Indiana Jones franchise. Kennedy confirmed rumors that another Indy movie “will one day be made inside this company. When it will happen, I’m not quite sure. We haven’t started working on a script yet, but we are talking about it.”
Kennedy’s statement is a much more optimistic and concrete version of what Disney chairman Alan Horn said last year. “We haven’t done anything,” he told Variety. “We don’t have a story. We need a story.” While there’s still no word on which rumored hunk might wear the fedora next, Kennedy and everyone else working at the higher level is clear about one thing: first, the movie needs a script. And who better to find that script than Kennedy, who served as Indiana Jones director Steven Spielberg’s trusted executive producer on all of his projects from 1982-2012? Once Kennedy has all cylinders firing in space, she can turn her attention from the sands of Jakku to the dust of Indy's next dig.

I imagine Lucasfilm wants to get the new trilogy out of the way before they tackle Indiana Jones again...so we're talking what - around 2020?
By that time, I'm guessing we'll be off the Chris Pratt bandwagon and begging them to sign Oscar Isaac as the new Indy.

Indy 5 should start with Indy and Marion at Mutt's funeral. Then an adventure springs up from there.

If anyone knows what Disney is planning to do with the Indiana Jones rights gained by the Mouse House in the same deal that nabbed them Star Wars back in 2012, it’d be Frank Marshall. He’s worked as a producer or executive producer of every Indy movie to date, and is slated to return for the next one.
Looking for some clarity on rumours that have circulated for months, then, Total Film asked Marshall directly if Chris Pratt (who worked with Marshall on Jurassic World) could take up the mantle of Indiana Jones for the new film.
“There are a lot of rumours,” Marshall admitted. “We haven’t even sat down to talk about Indy yet… at some point we’ll sit down. But there’s a bunch of people who could probably take the baton.”
That sounds like he’s open to recasting Indy doesn’t it? Well, think again. Marshall also mentioned that they’re “not doing the Bond thing where we’re going to call somebody else Indiana Jones… we have to figure this out.”
Well, that’s a bit of a relief. So, Marshall is seemingly open to handing ‘the baton’ of the franchise to a younger actor but not willing to ‘call somebody else Indiana Jones.’
This surely means that we’ll eventually see Harrison Ford’s Indy imparting his archaeological expertise to a young aspiring adventurer. More like the new Star Wars sequels than James Bond, then. To draw a parallel with the two JJ Abrams Star Trek films, perhaps Harrison Ford could play a similar role to Leonard Nimoy - sticking around to give advice, but leaving the running about and heavy lifting to the new generation.
At this stage, we can’t rule any actors out. Except maybe Shia LaBeouf. More news as we hear it.

It's crazy they're just being so nonchalant about this movie..uh..guys...no one's getting any younger here! I'd like a proper Ford send-off for this... so if they can figure out a way to make it with an older Professor Jones I'm still for it.

I don't see why so many people are opposed to recasting Indy. We've had 1/2 dozen James Bonds and I don't hear people bitching that Connery is the only acceptable Bond. People need to face the fact that Ford is getting too old to be running around. So if we want more Indy, it will have to be a recast.
Maybe do part of the movie with Ford as old Indy recounting an adventure (flashback to new Indy). Or something he did in the past pops up again in the present for Old Indy to take care of.

The argument about Bond is certainly a valid one, but the situation is a little bit different because the Bond franchise ran fairly confident continuously over the years as it transitioned between the actors over quite a significant period of time. The Indy films (4 excepted) ran over a period of less than 10 with a single actor, and weren't really intended to go past that. When they came back to the franchise 20+ years later, they brought back the same actor. He's pretty iconically associated with the role to the point where it's really hard to imagine anyone else in it. It's pointless to say that they shouldn't. There's too much money on the line, so a recast is "when," not "if." But seeing a new actor take on the role which has been iconically associated with one person for almost 35 years is a harder sell than a new one where the franchise has cycled through different performers over the course of half a century.

How soon could they even get another Indy movie made? 3-4 more years? Would Ford even want to work anymore at 76-77 years old?

The more I think about it, the harder it is for me to accept another actor in the role of Indiana Jones.
Chris Pratt or Nathan Fillion might sound good on paper, but Indiana Jones is Harrison Ford. There's just a quality to the character that that particular actor brings that I don't think can be replicated. Anyone else picking up the hat and whip is just going to seem like an Asylum knock-off.

The problem w/ recasting Indy is that Indy is Ford. Not just cuz he has the role. But so much of that body language and character is Harrison Ford. Watch the guy in other things. Much like Han Solo... it's all Ford. That's a bigger issue than Bond, as stated, moved on and on. If you recast than what you're getting is someone mimicking Harrison Ford literally.

They should cast Melissa Mccarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon to play Indiana Jones.
