At risk of sounding all "woke" and shit, it occurred to me a long time ago that Indiana Jones was an asshole who was out there robbing graves and stealing treasures from non-white people.
It's like, he wouldn't dream of sneaking into the Vatican and absconding with a bunch of shit from their archives, or dig up graves in Boston to steal jewelry off of the corpses, but it's fine when you're going to another country and doing it people who have darker skin than you.
Now I love the first three Indiana Jones movies for the free-wheeling, breakneck adventure films they are and don't think these things should be addressed in the movies outside of a line or two, but it is a worthwhile discussion to be had after watching them.

If that bothers you about him, you will be flat out irked at what Helena does .

Kathleen Kennedy is hoping for a Helena Shaw spinoff. Of course she's going to say that.

I just saw the movie last night. It is most definitely an improvement from the last movie, but not on par with the first three. Like Star Wars, they just waited too long to make the fourth movie in the franchises and just couldn't recapture the magic from the previous films. Part of the problem is we, as the viewers, have changed from the time that the original trilogies were made. Most of us were kids when we watched the originals and are no longer the same people that we were back then and wont' have the same sense of awe we experienced watching the earlier movies.
The movie is decent, but really felt way too long. It has the same silly contrived chase sequences, running around the globe to look for that special artifact. But, with Harrison being so old now it seems silly and you're just waiting for the big payoff toward the end when you find out what the ancient gadget can do and the aftermath of it being used.

really? That's a worthwhile discussion? If you care that much about the topic just look at the history of the British and where all the artifacts came from in the British museum of history... then you can just let a movie be a movie.

Now Harrison Ford has played both Han Solo and Indiana Jones in 5 movies and 1 TV show each.

“Shit happens,” Ford said. “I was really the one who felt there was another story to tell. When [Indy] had suffered the consequences of the life that he had to live, I wanted one more chance to pick him up and shake the dust off his ass and stick him out there, bereft of some of his vigor, to see what happened. I’m still happy I made that movie.”

"'I'm still happy I made that movie . . . the checks bought so much weed."
I am happy to hear that, but jaded on Ford's authenticity anymore.

DEADLINE: Many felt that Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny was an example of where Harrison Ford stayed a little too long at the dance...
KENNEDY: No, no. I have no regrets about that because Harrison wanted to do that more than anything. He did not want Indy to end with the fourth movie. He wanted a chance at another, and we did that for him. I think that was the right thing to do. He wanted to do that movie. I don’t think Indy will ever be done, but I don’t think anybody is interested right now in exploring it. But these are timeless movies, and Indy will never be done.
DEADLINE: Sounds like you are not ruling out another film with the whip and the fedora…
KENNEDY: You never know. But we are all still here, Steven and Frank and I, and Harrison and George. So we get to say whether there’s going to be any more, or not.

Lip service. At this point, Kennedy's say on this franchise's future likely holds little influence at the mouse house. Dial of Destiny lost the company over $130 million, Lucas is retired and Spielberg has already moved on from the series. There is zero doubt Disney will reboot Indy one day (likely without input from any of them), it's just a question of if they have the courtesy not to do it in Ford's lifetime.

Yeah, there won’t be another Ford Indiana Jones movie. Dial of Destiny was his swan song. Unfortunately, it just wasn’t a particularly good send off, IMO. The most regrettable thing to me is that it was really only a handful of tweaks away from being a great send off.
But hey, the adventures of Indiana Jones and his bitch god daughter is cool too.

I had lunch with my dad yesterday and he pulled out a belated Christmas present: a Helena Shaw action figure. I chuckled and asked if he'd kept the receipt. He said "Eh, it was only $4 at Ollie's". I joked that he still overpaid, but I guess it was worth it for the "Build an Artifact" piece (the front of the skull alter from Temple of Doom) the figure comes with.

I still don't fully understand the hate this movie got. It wasn't amazing but eh, I still liked it better than two other entries.

But then I remembered that kids don't play with or collect these things as much as adults do nowadays.
