Honestly if he can stay healthy enough and in good enough shape I'm cool with him continuing on as Wolverine. He looked as good as ever in Days of Future Past and is great in the role. Hell eventually we could reach a point where an old man Wolverine story could be adapted for a film.

Once the Star Wars sequels are out, Anthony Daniels will likely match that, though some of those are likely just voice acting
I think Samuel L Jackson might have signed a 9 picture deal as Nick Fury. At this point he's played the character five times, I believe (am I forgetting any?), plus on Agents of SHIELD.
But I doubt anyone can touch Shintaro Katsura, who played Zatoichi in 25 movies and 100 episodes of a tv series.

Wolverine was already the star of all the X-Men films except for First Class and he still gets three standalone movies on top of that. I liked The Wolverine but it's getting to be a bit much.

I just wish Fox would have to balls to not hamfist some bullshit nonsense like at the 3rd act of the The Wolverine. Cuz I really loved it but then it got stupid w/ Silver Samurai. The film was so much more stronger without that need to get this epic generic villain vs. hero bit. Hell, if the film somehow could have been reworked to be more like the story they adapted it would have been so much more dramatically powerful. Cuz it had a lot of good shit going for it.

Wasn't it just a month or so ago that Jackman said he wanted to play Wolverine until the day he dies and he wanted to someday be Old Man Logan?
I think Jackman has "retired" and then reversed it about as often as Rocky Balboa and Hideo Kojima have "retired" and then reversed it.

Hugh Jackman has officially confirmed that the third Wolverine movie will be his last time playing the role that he has owned in the X-Men film franchise.
“This will be my last one,” Jackman said, point blank, when asked about it on the Dr. Oz show earlier today.
“It is my last time,” he continued. “It just felt like it was the right time to do it. And let’s be honest, 17 years. I never thought in a million years it would last, so I’m so grateful to the fans for the opportunity of playing it.
“I kind of have in my head what we’re going to do in this last one. It just feels like this is the perfect way to go out.”
This still leaves it unclear whether or not he’ll be making an appearance in X-Men: Apocalypse, which opens before the next Wolverine, but he hasn’t been seen on set in Motreal so far.
Either way, Jackman’s Wolverine has been the most iconic role in the franchise since he first played Logan in the original X-Men. The character was even used as the through line to bring the original and prequel trilogies together in X-Men: Days of Future Past. His presence will certainly be difficult to replace.

Not surprised. Jackman is pushing 50 now and I'm sure he wants to move on from this character. Plus playing Logan is physically demanding and the workout regiment to get in shape for this must be crazy intense.
