Re: Val Kilmer Appreciation Thread.

I've always enjoyed his work. He just seemed super cool in the 90s when he hit his prime with all of his action movies, even if a lot of them weren't exactly great!

Most people love Real Genius but I think his comedic high point was Top Secret.

It's too bad his career has fallen to DTV releases, I still think there's still time for him to get back in shape and pull off a good comeback. Hopefully!

Re: Val Kilmer Appreciation Thread.

Gonna watch him in Francis Coppola's "Twixt" tonight.

Also it will be interesting to see if he makes the final cut of Terrence Malicks upcoming untitled film.

Re: Val Kilmer Appreciation Thread.

I would like to add his role in Top Gun was pretty spot-on. I worked with Navy pilots for many years (one even performed my re-enlistment) and there were a lot of "Ice Men" and "Mavericks" types.

But Top Secret! will always have a soft spot in my heart.

No mention of The Doors yet. I always liked the TV movie he did back in the 80s - The Man Who Broke 1,000 Chains.

wow. i think i remember that. wasn't Charles Durning in it too??

Matt mentioned Spartan. that is an amazing piece of work by him and another homerun, imo, by David Mamet.

Re: Val Kilmer Appreciation Thread.

I honestly thought he was washed up until I saw that he could still bring-it in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. He should actually try and settle down for a FX TV series or something.

Re: Val Kilmer Appreciation Thread.

Yeah, the guy is a mixed bag. He can be the coolest cat around but the biggest dick in a drop of hat.

They shot Salton Sea at my place of business way back in the late 90's and during the overnight shoot he was sitting with a few of us grubbing. All of a sudden he cuts into a bit of steak, chews it, makes a face, and spits the glob of food out in front of us and walks away. It's fine if you didn't like the food from catering but don't be a fucking baby about it. It was a smug and dickish move.

Not enough steaks in the freezer. Vegas and Superbowl cleaned him out.

Re: Val Kilmer Appreciation Thread.

I still don't understand to this day if Simon in the Saint is really suppose to be that ridiculous or did it just came out ridiculous because it was played by Kilmer? Simon suppose to be this great imitator who can camouflage, blend in and disappear, but all his character make up were all so ridiculous and obvious.
