What if Episode II Were Good?

Yeah, there seemed like there would have been a lot of action and character building along with it. It makes me wish Disney would remake the prequel trilogy using this guy's ideas. It'd never happen but it would be cool. Maybe some talented geeks with too much time on their hands should remake the prequels.

I think his idea of bringing Owen Lars into the action is terrible. He was a bitter recluse in ANH. What he suggests is... just awful...

I disagree. If he and Anakin were great friends, he'd take Anakin's fall pretty hard. And since Obi Wan did the deed, he'd probably harbor some resentment towards him. Perhaps he never got the whole story and just told Obi Wan to fuck off. Would explain why he always wanted to keep Luke away from "Old Ben".

I think the idea of having the emperor as the bad guy is fine but the way they handled the machinations was too dumb and convoluted for a space opera.
What I really thought they were going to do was have Obi Wan and Count Dooku team up to fight the Emperor and Anakin, making it a story abut saving the soul instead of some stupid trumped love story gone wrong. Coming back to how one can redeem themselves from the dark side.
Basically Qui Gon needed to live and become the Count Dooku character who dies in the third movie by Anakin.

It's funny that the Episode I art book that was included with my VHS copy shows that Qui Gon was originally intended to be Obi Wan's apprentice, rather than the other way around.

Luke: No, my father didn't fight in the Clone Wars. He was a navigator on a spice freighter.
Obi-Wan: That's what your uncle told you. He didn't hold with your father's ideals; he felt he should've stayed here and not gotten involved.
Maybe that wizard was just a crazy old man....

That would make Obi-wan the biggest liar in the galaxy (considering the lies he's already told)-
Luke: No, my father didn't fight in the Clone Wars. He was a navigator on a spice freighter.
Obi-Wan: That's what your uncle told you. He didn't hold with your father's ideals; he felt he should've stayed here and not gotten involved.

But that's an easy fix. The Clone Wars are about to break out in full scale by the end of this proposed Episode II Redux. By Episode III, everything gets so unrelentingly bad and effed up that Owen pleads with his friend, Anakin, to walk away and spare his life. Anakin feels it's his duty and pushes forward. They part ways amicably (albeit reluctantly). Anakin dies and Owen makes sure to keep Luke, the embodiment of his fallen friend, safe.
Or.... Although Owen felt Anakin shouldn't have gotten involved, Owen still backed Anakin up (albeit reluctantly) only to witness his friend fall at the hands of Obi Wan Kenobi.

Re: What if Episode II Were Good?
I believe the use of were is correct. Indicative tense. Use it to say something that is not true. By using this tense/construction, you let the reader know that what they just read is not what is accurate factually. Saying "If Episode II were good" has the built-in aside (but it is not).

I'm guessing that "What if Episode III were good" will detail how he volunteers to raise Luke.
