For those wondering what happened to Keaton's career, I'm pretty sure it was a combination of him being REALLY picky with the parts he took and wanting to take the time to raise his son. Hopefully this does well for him. It's easily my number one most anticipated for this fall.

Stuntman Mike was a great role, minus the whiny bitch aspect.

That was the irony. That's also why Mickey Rourke turned down the role, too.

Box Office Mojo has this coming out on Friday in only 4 locations. Fuck.

Is there any website that would have when this will expand? Can't find it on Box Office Mojo.

Re: Birdman (2014) D: Iñárritu; S: Keaton, Stone, Norton, Galifinakis, Watts

But Birdman isn’t the only movie in history to have been made to look like a single take. Alfred Hitchcock’s Rope is the famous example, and there’s also the 2002 film Russian Ark.

There’s always this comparison with Rope, which I think is a terrible film. I don’t like it. I think it’s a very bad film of Hitchcock’s. It’s a very mediocre film. Obviously, he shot with that intention and it didn’t work — because of the film itself! It has nothing to do with the technique, it’s just a mediocre film.

I wouldn't go so far as to call Rope terrible, but it's certainly not top-tier Hitchcock. He made at least a dozen better films. I'd say mediocre is the much better descriptor.

I love Jimmy Stewart so I've seen Rope several times, but I agree with people who said it would have been more satisfying as an episode of the TV show.

On topic: my local theater will NOT be getting Birdman tomorrow.

Re: Birdman (2014) D: Iñárritu; S: Keaton, Stone, Norton, Galifinakis, Watts

My friend saw this and gave a 5-star. It's that good.

As if I needed more reasons to want to love Michael Keaton as a performer, director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu has given the actor a fantastic role that puts him back in the spotlight, in a film that puts heavy emphasis on what it is to mean something to many, only to want to redefine one’s self. That is just one of the many ideas that Birdman tackles, as the film plays as a very entertaining dissection of Hollywood, Broadway, and the notion of fame in our modern culture. Additionally, Inarritu was far from content with treating this project as a simple satirical exercise, so the film is made to show us the weeks that go by in this story within nearly one long take. This shot is of course many shots carefully stitched together, but the screenplay is also a careful assemblage of ideas, themes, and great moments for all the actors to shine. This makes Birdman an ambitious and unpredictable ball of energy that just so happens to be a spectacular film to watch.

I've been avoiding trailers so I can go into this fresh, but I love the pictures of the costume. It's going to be great to see Keaton back in action, this could be the best comic book movie since the Dark Knight!

I'm pretty excited for this too, but I have a feeling I'll end up having to wait until its on Blu-ray to see it. Very low chance the main theatre in town would get this even if it gets a wider release and the other theatre that gets smaller films is hit and miss and doesn't show films until around November or December and is only open for films seasonally for now.

I've liked Keaton for a long time though and saw him on Letterman the other night who couldn't quit raving about how good Birdman is.
