I didn't expect that at all. I was thinking it would be more of a dark comedy like the press release earlier said but it almost looks closer to a straight up drama. Looks interesting though and I'll definitely check it out. Really would like to see Keaton do some more work.

It would be awkward if Fox put this trailer in front of the big studio tentpoles, & more show up than expected (assuming reviews are through the roof) & then several will complain when its either too dark or ends up being a 2.5 hour art movie w "guy who used to be a superhero & do superhero things" as a minor subplot

I can't help but feel like this is going to end up like a comedic version of The Fountain with the story lines of the movie, real life, and the play running parallel.

Earlier this month, the first trailer for Alejandro González Iñárritu's "Birdman" dropped and it was kind of bonkers awesome. But what on Earth is it about? “It’s less about a guy who played a superhero in big hit movies than it is about exploring the human soul and psyche, and also where we are as a society today and how much importance we place on those kinds of things,” the film's star Michael Keaton told EW. So certainly, not your average comedy or drama by stretch, but the firepower behind the movie is undeniable.
Emma Stone, Zach Galifianakis, Amy Ryan, Edward Norton, Andrea Riseborough and Naomi Watts are among the ensemble for this already pretty wild looking tale, but could there be one more trick up the sleeve of Iñárritu we haven't heard of just yet? Bear with us a moment. Last fall, "Gravity" director and Iñárritu pal Alfonso Cuarón told Capture Mag, "Next year, you'll see a film shot in one continuous sequence-shot and it's a masterpiece." Then, this spring over at Redditian, a user claimed "the cinematography is done by Emmanuel Lubezki and the entire film is going to be one continuous shot like 'Rope'. SOURCE: I worked on it." That's not all.
This dude says he's seen an early cut of the movie and says it has "an awe inspiring 40 minute tracking shot."
So, what to make of all this? Well, there's no official word about anything on the visual end of the movie, and before you say ZOMG SINGLE TRACKING SHOT MOVIE cool your jets, because—again, if this is accurate, and that's a big maybe—it's at best constructed to look that way, like Alfred Hitchcock did with the careful edits in the aforementioned "Rope." And it should be said, that outside Cuarón, these are far from rock solid sources, so consider it pure speculation for the moment.

I would love it if Keaton could make a big mark again. Been fun seeing him in small stuff but goddamn did he become a waste of a great actor. We need more Keaton led films that aren't by Mark Steven Johnson!

I've been waiting for a Michael Keaton career resurgence since the 90s. I hope this is the film that does it.

International trailer: has profanity.
Like many other international trailers - this has many more scenes than the US one and includes minor plot points that some may not want to know before they see it even if they aren't really spoilerish in the first place like:

Yeah if he ever had the chance to reinvent himself as an actor Jackie Brown was a golden opportunity to do so. Not sure why he just sort of disappeared into obscurity after that for the most part.

Anyone know who sings that version of "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood"?

During a recent event called "Movies in Your Brain: The Science of Cinematic Perception", director Jon Favreau and editor Walter Murch discussed films like THE CONVERSATION. Favreau brought up BIRDMAN and said the film does have cuts, but they are virtually undetectable which makes the movie look like a single long take. This looks like a pretty cool technique and we can see it put to use in the latest international trailer for the film.

Judging by the trailer I'm going to guess that this is going to be much darker than the trailer lets on and that people are going to be disappointed.

^ A couple of moments aside, I did not in any way get the impression that this was a comedy. While Birdman is good, I think "The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance" is probably more accurate for the kind of movie this will be.
