I find F1 racing fascinating, but in regards to MoviePass - that's been making me try to see as many movies in a month's time - I've become quite addicted to it (however Landmark not accepting it is very annoying).

Going to watch it at 1:15 today. I'm kind of iffy on how I feel about it though. Howard isn't a director I go for. The only time I've seen a film of his in theaters was Frost/Nixon, which was great. It's mostly what word of mouth is saying that is tempting me. Otherwise I'm conflicted on it. The trailers don't excite me but what's being said of it does get me.

I hope you have a driver to root for. Perez may be replaced by the Hulk at McLaren and Gutierrez may lose his seat at Sauber.

Fucking hell. I loved it. Was really tense and great camera work. Id love to learn how they made this one.

I think Perez will stay. McLaren is just making some noise to get Perez to move his butt quicker. Gutierrez will probably stay too. He's done much better in the 2nd half of the season, and he brings in good sponsor money.

Hopefully the Blu-Ray will have some extras in a market increasingly bereft of them. Anthony Dod Mantle is the only DP I've ever seen with three separate cinematographer societies after his name, and this proves he deserves them. Obviously there aren't many left, but any skeptics about digital should just watch this, they'll be blown away. Superb camera work and cinematography, and the integration of whatever effects they used was excellent, it all looked seamless. Simply stunning stuff. I'll definitely be picking up the Blu-Ray.

Just saw this tonight and really, really liked it. I'm a big fan of Peter Morgan's work -- he can take the most innocuous, seemingly irrelevant real-life episodes (David Frost prepping for his Nixon interview, crafting the Royals' official response to the public's grief over Diana, Tony Blair getting burned by Bill Clinton in the wake of Monica Lewinsky) and make fascinating screenplays from them. This is certainly another. Thought the direction was tight and the cinematography was spectacular. I haven't seen a ton of new movies this year, but this film was my favorite so far.

^ That's why Peter Morgan gets paid the big bucks. I've yet to see The Damned United, though. He also wrote Hereafter for Clint Eastwood. That one was okay. Frost/Nixon is stellar.

Damned United was pretty good too. Not as fascinating as the others, IMO, but still fun as a standard underdog sports movie. Plus Michael Sheen is great in it (as always).

One very minor complaint : Using the song "Fame" by David Bowie during the excess montage at the end. It was a WAY too on-the-nose music cue. You get the feeling they would have gone with "Life in the Fast Lane" if it wasn't a slight anachronism.

Yeah I too was caught by the fact that Anthony Dod Mantle had three titles, that is impressive. I really enjoyed this movie. I did think the trailers looked good, but like others, was hoping it's not like the 'other' Ron Howard fare and it didn't disappoint. Brühl was great as well, finding out he was Zoller in IB, good stuff.

This was one of the shortest 2 hour movies I've seen in a while.

ugh, thankfully it didn't come to that - I would have put my finger down my throat if that song popped up.

Good movie, but unless you have a good home cinema system it will suffer cinematic wise, as most big event pictures do at home, but that why I saw this at cinema. I was not even born when these F1 stars were about, but through my interest in F1 and viewing old races, and documentaries since 1989 I think, I was not out of the loop about most of the drivers on the track from years gone by right up to the current time. The rivalry was not a really bitter bone of contention like Senna & Prost, Schumacher & Hill, Alonso & Hamilton but one where they teased and egged each other on. The real whiners where Ferrari's chief principle, that every time things hadn't transpired their way they would log some appeal. That said both drivers were great sports but lauda was great where's Hunt was good.

I thought it was just as good as Gran Prix and I love that movie. Maybe it's because I actually saw the actual races in real life... on TV.

Not a Ron Howard fan at all. In fact, the only movies I've liked that he's made have all been recent. "Cinderella Man", "Frost/Nixon" and even "The Da Vinci Code". Yeah, that one too. Guilty pleasure maybe, but I enjoyed it. That said, just watched "Rush" tonight and loved it. 9/10 rating from me. It actually felt nothing like a Ron Howard movie. Had I watched this not knowing and was told afterwards that he directed it, I would have said no way. This could end up in my Top 10 of 2013. Still have 5 or so movies yet.

It's weird that it didn't get more award nominations or appear on more Top 10 lists. I thought it was great. I just think Gravity came along and stole all its mojo.
Checking IMDB, I guess Daniel Bruel is getting some recognition at least, which is absolutely deserved. I hope the cinematographer gets recognized at Oscar time as well.

Rented the Blu-Ray last night and watched it today. Thought it was pretty darn good. I'm not a racing fan at all, but the racing sequences in this film were pretty damn exciting. The story about the rivalry between Lauda and Hunt was pretty compelling. Hemsworth was awesome as Hunt. He totally exemplified the character from what little I've heard and read about Hunt. Daniel Bruhl was the highlight as Lauda.
I might consider picking this film up later in the year.
