It does look digital and they used cgi to make it look like it was filmed in that period. The last film I saw that actually looked great and matched the time period was the Bank Job remake with Jason Statham. That one looked awesome.
This one looks cool but way to artificially slick.

Saw this Friday, an excellent movie all the way around.
If you pass on this just because it has F1 racing you are really missing out. Saying Rush is just about racing is like saying Raging Bull is just about boxing.

Excellent movie. And (as a nice bonus) I forgot to check the movie's rating, so I wasn't expecting to get to see Natalie Dormer (Margaery Tyrell from Game of Thrones) nude.

Just got back from watching this and it was bad fucking ass!!!! Just wow! The digital processed photography looked way better than the trailers. It was not as distracting as I thought it was going to be.
Daniel Bruhl will be nominated for something. He stole the film.
Great all around.

Going this afternoon, but it appears that this movie and everything that wasn't CWACOMB 2 bombed out this weekend. So frustrating when good movies fail to find an audience while anything aimed at kids seems to get a free pass.

The Bank Job is not a remake. It's loosely based on a true story, but is an original script.
You might be thinking of The Italian Job, which was a remake of an earlier film with Michael Caine.

As a parent, it's a relief to find a movie that isn't completely insulting to parents that we can take kids to without suffering too much. CWACOMB 2 fits that bill, which is why it's getting the free pass. From what I've read, it's gotten decent reviews. However I do hope Rush gains traction, I did enjoy it.

Was it? Shit, you're probably right. I was so into the film that I totally forgot it wasn't a remake. The cool thing about the film (The Bank Job) was that it was a crime thriller and Statham does not use any martial arts in it. The promotional materials and some of those posters were also pretty sweet.

Saw it. Really liked it , but I can see how it would have limited appeal. Bruhl deserves a nomination and I think a Sound Effects Editing should be in order as well. Hemsworth did a great job as well. It's kind of frustrating how whenever Howard does something weak (Da Vinci Code movies, The Grinch) it's a hit, but whenever he makes something worthwhile (Frost/Nixon, this movie) it struggles.

Howard needs to continue collaborating with Peter Morgan. He wrote Rush and Frost/Nixon.
And I agree on how inconsistent Howard is as a director.

I feel I should should also mention Alexandra Maria Lara who played Lauda's wife. She did well with a small role. However, it was far more prominent than Olivia Wilde who has been seen in most of the TV spots. Not going to spoil anything, but if you've seen the previews, you've already seen about half of Wilde's screen time.

Youth Without Youth
The Baader Meinhof Complex
Farewell
All badass little films.
And I agree about Olivia Wilde.

I hope more people go see it, its sad to hear it didnt do so well this weekend. I would also add Cinderella Man as another great Ron Howard movie that should have been a hit. He has been a great director with period sports movies.

I am quite surprised this didn't do well. I thought because it had fast cars that the general public would love it.

Never been a big fan of F1 racing, so I probably wouldn't have seen it without having the MoviePass.
Glad I did because I enjoyed it.

Good sound mix, ah, those throaty 70s motors! I have to get myself a surround sound setup for the house. Terrific flick, fantastic race sequences, strong drama, top performances, hopefully they'll get recognized come Oscar time. I'll gladly eat crow as regards shooting digitally, I still would've liked a bit of grit, but it looked gorgeous. Howard clearly took advantage of the opportunities it allowed him for editing tricks and camera placement. So Anthony Dod Mantle is ASC, BSC, and DFF? I've never seen someone with there cinematographer societies listed after his name before, impressive. Hopefully he'll be up for an award too, some of the camera work was stunning, especially the shots inside the helmets. My friend is no film geek, but when Lauda put his helmet on and the camera was inside, he actually leaned over to me and went "What a cool shot!" Good stuff.

I was really looking forward to this, since Lauda was a boyhood hero of mine. I was sadly disappointed. While the action scenes were great, and it was generally well acted, I thought the whole thing was painfully formulaic and by-the-numbers.
