The Bear Jew should have just clicked his way out of the tunnel, walked over and taken the guy out with the bat. Then walked away, none of that cheesy 'baseball' talk. That's a recent one.

Interesting. I thought the above was a "happier" ending, and was glad they had the "balls" to go with the current ending, which I consider bleaker. Maybe it's because I imagined Morgan saying "I'm retired" coming off like a Dirty Harry wise crack and the audience laughing or applauding.

It totally ruined what was, to that point, a pretty damned good sci-fi action flick.
Oh yeah, I would have also fixed it so that once the aliens' EMP went off and nobody's cell phones or watches worked anymore, nobody would be using their camcorders either.
Agreed. The worst part is that by the time Robbie shows up again the audience has already accepted the fact that he died. Had he not been there at the end no one would have complained at all and it would have made for a better ending.

Toy Story 3 - Instead of Bo Peep being given away prior to the events of the movie, I would have had her shattered and broken, thrown away (someone postulated this years back before the movie, and I thought it was great), but still have that happen during the same timeframe as before. She's a porcelain doll that belongs to a kid, that would have been both sad and appropriate.

Who says Woody came from Andy's Mother? He could have came from Dad's side of the family. (No mention is ever made of Andy's Father in any of the films, so heaven knows what happened to him). It's just speculation.

Re: What changes would you make to a movie?

Would have ended Minority Report with Tom Cruise stuck in the tank at the end.

Would have ended A.I. with the kid stuck underwater at the end (I bet if Kubrick had directed it, he would have ultimately decided to cut his original planned ending -- that Spielberg used -- and concluded it like this).

Would have changed Munich and cut out about the last 10 minutes.

Would have changed Lincoln and cut out about the last 15 minutes.

Would have changed Catch Me if You Can and cut out about the last 10 minutes.

Superman (1978)- Take out the reverse world-spin.
Identity (2003) - Anything but the ending we got. Loved it up until then.
Psycho (1960) - Take out the psychiatrist explanation.
A.I. (2001) - Same as others have said
War of the Worlds (2005) - The ridiculous return of the son

I don't see how that makes Toy Story 3 any better or more poignant. Besides, when a porcelain doll breaks and is thrown away, that's what happens -- she gets thrown away (unless Andy's a hoarder - which would have made a delightful film by the way). There's no reason for her to be in the movie, and the sad passing reference to her character in the beginning of the film does a lot to raise the stakes for the remaining toys. No altering required there.

Didn't the MPAA* require that?

Re: What changes would you make to a movie?

I would change films to screw with the audience. For example, Zero Dark Thirty:

Spoiler:

Jessica Chastain slowly unzips body bag, revealing a mannequin with a beard and a note pinned to it's chest in arabic: (english subs) "You missed, try again! Ha ha ha!" THE END

Oh yeah, and cut that awful Celine Dion song.
Cameron deliberately left that last part ambiguous, so audiences could interpret it for themselves. I don't hate the song, but it was insanely overplayed.

I'd remove the horrible love triangle from Enemy at the Gates and give Ron Pearlman more scenes.

the accents in the movie are all over the place as well, germans and russians speaking with english and american accents?

That's ridiculous to suggest Kubrick would have decided to throw away the end of his movie. Without the ending, the movie doesn't have a point, you might as well have ended it with David getting broken eating the spinach.

Why didn't A Clockwork Orange end when Alex jumps out the window, or The Killing when Nikki gets gunned down at the racetrack? Those aren't endings to a story.

I would of cut the Butch/Esmarelda car ride in Pulp Fiction. Only part i really don't care for in the otherwise perfect movie (that damn green screen, i know it was probably supposed to look obvious)

^ yeah but it's got my favorite quote from the entire film in that scene. "I'm American, honey. Our names don't mean shit."

Speaking of Butches, I would remove the entire "raindrops keeping falling on my head" sequence from Butch Cassity and the Sundance Kid. It stops the movie dead in its tracks and feels horribly out of place at the same time.

So anything directed by Spielberg cut the last 10 - 15 minutes? I still say he was stuck in the tank in Minority Report, the fact he dropped the original last line helps with that theory. A.I. is still probably his darkest ending to date.

I dug Identity all the way through.

I would change the ending on Django Unchained to change the shoot-out outcome and
Spoiler:
keep Django in the house, cutting out the torture and mining company sequences in place of something more... dynamic?

Toy Story 3 with Andy as a hoarder would be a greatly improved TS3.

Re: War of the Worlds

It is a Speilberg movie no way was that kid dying; I even expected it in the movie never once did I believe the kid was dead but it also ruins the movie for me and have not seen it since my original viewing.

Argo - I would have taken down the comparison scenes (movie & reality) in the end credits which further lead you to believe this movie was trying to be as accurate as possible when in fact much of it was not.

Re: What changes would you make to a movie?

Collateral- Probably one of my favorite movies of the last decade up until the last thirty minutes. Eliminate the taxi cab crash completely, let Cruise complete his last mission (with Foxx finding out who it was after the fact) and THEN get into your big finale where Foxx fights for his life. You can still have the feel-good ending, but with the darker subtext of doing the right thing after it's too late.

Re: What changes would you make to a movie?

I don't mean to turn this into another endless SW thread, but SW prequel trilogy really only needed a few fixes, IMO:

1. Remove all the kiddie/cartoonish/"poodoo"/"Roger Roger" idiotic "humor" and comic relief characters and lines.

2. No CGI versions of the actors during lightsaber fights---use real stuntmen.

3. Cast a different actor for both young and older Annakin.

4. Have the dialogue written/directed by someone better at it than Lucas.

That really would have done it for me. I was okay with the storylines, plot, effects, characters, music, etc.

I would recast Chris Tucker out of The Fifth Element. He completely ruins that movie for me.

^Fifth Element was way cheeseball and over-the-top long before Tucker showed up, IMO. I kind of liked his appearance.

Count me in as another that liked Tucker in 5th Element. He fit that world perfectly.
