I watched Rough Night today. I didn't really like it, but I'm not a terribly big fan of dark comedy. 2/5

A recent HD DVD upgrade. A+. The video was deep and rich, the surrounds were hopping. I had never seen Firefly when my daughter talked me into watching this movie back when it was released on HD DVD. Always liked this as a standalone movie, then having seen the series later made sense of some of the relationships.

I watched Descendants (Disney) today. It wasn't half bad. I didn't know it was a musical though. 3/5

Saw this in the theater but rented it so the wife could see it. Quite the tearjerker.

Had forgotten what a fun romp this was. Too bad the new one couldn't settle on a tone.

The Lift (1983) — Okay horror movie that is bogged down by needless, and contrived, family drama. Oddly, I actually (slightly) prefer the American remake, Down by the same director. That one seemed to embrace its cheesiness. 2.5/5

I watched Midnight Special tonight. I was all in until the ending which I found lacking. It was a great journey until the end. 3.5/5

I watched one more this morning before work: Batman: Bad Blood. This is my least favorite of the DC animated movies that I have watched. There were some really good action sequences and I didn't even know that there was a Batwoman character and a Batwing character with an iron man like suit. I found those new characters interesting, but I thought the storyline was really weak for this movie.... 2.75/5

The Bad Batch - 2.5/5

I really liked Ana Lily Amirpour’s debut A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night and was looking forward to this film. I found it to be a stylish post apocalyptic tale with a Tarantinoesque flavor. After a highly promising first third it just wanders down an aimless path that eventually disappoints. It’s not a bad film, but it does meander at times and feels as if it could have used a tighter script and a trim in the editing room.

Annabelle: Creation (2017) — Unnecessary prequel to a prequel (and an awful one at that) and yet still pretty damn good. Has shades of director David F. Sandberg's previous film, Lights Out. Some solid performances throughout and genuine scares though like many modern horror relies a bit too much on the score and sound effects. 3.5/5

I watched Girls Trip today. I'm not the targeted audience for this, but I thought it was decent. It was a lot more raunchy than I was expecting. 3/5

Better Watch Out - A properly fucked up Christmas themed home invasion movie. I recommend skipping the trailer and checking it out. Warburton and Madsen are only in it for a few minutes.

For the spoiler fan
Spoiler:
it's Funny Games as a horror comedy where the guys are 12 year olds with some Home Alone inspired insanity.

Nicolas Cage was never particularly choosy about his roles but they were generally decent movies until his tax problems. Cusack, what the hell happened to him? He seemed to pick and choose now he only chooses weird ass crap.

Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread

The Foreigner Not a bad flick but nothing truly unique. Jackie Chan plays an aging special forces soldier whose daughter is killed in a terrorist attack. The bulk of the action and the plot revolve around Chan's and Brosnin cat and mouse game to get answers to the events. A decent matinee or moviepass flick but I wouldn't recommend it at full price. Too much been there, done that.

Maybe if you get Cage you also get Cusack in a package deal.

Maybe it all started to fall apart for Cage around 2009.
