Kings & Queen - 4/5 - French drama/comedy told in parallel storylines of two people who were once a couple coming to grips with their dysfunctions. Great acting & interesting characters.

Watched Ted & Frankenweenie last night. Edge goes to Frankenweenie.
Ted had its moments but was mostly pretty fucking stupid. Pretty basic plot too. Girl makes commitment-phobe boyfriend choose between her and his frat boy friend, except in this case one of the parts is played by a cursing teddy bear. Add in a extremely half-baked subplot with Giovanni Ribisi and the movie just falls short. Don't get me wrong, I didn't hate it, but how it was everyone's favorite comedy of last year just boggles the mind. No need to ever revisit this one.
Frankenweenie on the other hand was good but just short of being great. Loved the plot, character designs and just the overall feel of the film, but all the characters were underdeveloped. E.Gore, Sparky and Mr. Rzykruski stole the show though. I've been very vocal about Elfman's constant rehashing of scores for everything since Batman, but I really like what he did here.

Holy shit, marathoning them is an amazing experience. Life goes by so fast, things change quickly, there's so much going on. If I didn't have to sleep I would watch 49 right now. First thing tomorrow. 56 Up is coming to a theater near me in a matter of weeks as well.

Eh, it was really thin. The trailers for this movie made it look dumb but because of the two leads I gave it a shot. It was probably a little worse than what I was expecting and I went in with very low expectations.
The plot could have been significantly covered in a short-film. It feels like they just kept adding stuff to pad the run-time. The idea behind the whole thing isn't a terrible one but it was executed blandly.
Shannon definitely can play crazy very well but it couldn't save the flick.

Life of Pi - The movie was stellar. It was like watching Hugo all over again - that same type of feeling. Very magical film, imo.
Flight - The film has a great first 30 minutes before turning into a bland piece of work.

Machine Gun Preacher- I enjoyed the movie, but it oddly glosses over major events and time passages without any explanation. I can only blame both the script and the director for that. Hell of a story though.

Silver Linings Playbook - Solid performances from Cooper, Lawrence, and De Niro, but I liked the film more when it was a drama and less once it became a romcom. They make you think it might be a unique look at mental illness and how it affects everyone around the person, but then it becomes Flashdance and we get the happy ending and I was kinda checked out by that point.

Green Lantern - just now.
Last week - A Haunted House. Thank you Moviepass, I would have kicked myself if I paid ten bucks cash to see that.
