I loved Movie Magic. I used to record the segments and dupe them after their corresponding films on VHS.

for making your own DVD special features on VHS, that was a great idea!

I liked this movie a lot as a teenager. I watched it a few months ago for the first time in a long time and while I still enjoyed it I also found it a) needlessly brutal and b) overly long. Regarding a) it's as if I forgot how fun "over the top can be" but it kind of feels like the fillmmakers did, too, because the tone is so serious and as for b) I just felt like the whole thing could've been trimmed by 20 minutes and still gotten the story across.

Re: Let's talk about Cliffhanger.

Yeah I was kind of wondering how Leon learned all those Kung Fu moves when he was kicking Stallone's ass. And then the soccer guy was just being a dick to Rooker.

Also, a lot of trouble could have been saved if Lithgow hadn't announced his plans to the world. By doing so he pretty much allowed Rooker to provide Stallone with constant updates of any danger.

I feel the same way about the film that you do. It's "Die Hard on a Mountain" but while Die Hard was violent and rough it was never mean. Cliffhanger has a brutal meanness that makes it a lot less enjoyable as a thrill ride. Guys getting kicked in the face with crampons, vicious sexual taunting, stuff like that.

I wasn't really referring to the crash into the side of the mountain, I was referring to the fight on top of it/around it by the actors.

Re: Let's talk about Cliffhanger.

Renny Harlin's second best movie (damning with faint praise, I know). Almost as good as Die Hard 2...I remember seeing this back then and thinking Harlin would soon be a force to be reckoned with in the action filmmaking dept...maybe even as good as McTiernan or hell even George Miller.

I was so very, very wrong.

Re: Let's talk about Cliffhanger.

I watched a few months ago and I think it still holds up as a fun action movie of the 90's.

Re: Let's talk about Cliffhanger.

Harlin had a hell of a streak for awhile. This, DH2, Long Kiss Goodnight, Deep Blue Sea, Nightmare on Elm Street 4... hell, I even like Cutthroat Island.

Overall I like his stuff, looking at IMDB, he direct a lot of Burn Notice, which I like...

His newer movies are hit or miss. I'd like to see him tackle a big budget action flick again (12Rounds doesn't count, can't stand John Cena)

I bought this on DVD for four dollars. I still like it. One of Stallone's most enjoyable flicks.

Re: Let's talk about Cliffhanger.

Good movie.

Good guys vs bad guys. As opposed to the "bad guys with a story" that we get now. John Lithgow played a good brutal bad guy there for awhile (anyone remember Ricochet?).

Brutal and relentless. Made anyone afraid of heights cringe. They did a lot of real stunts back then.

Renny Harlin is a client of mine, he told me he, and Stallone don't get along any more.

Re: Let's talk about Cliffhanger.

Basically it's Die Hard on a mountain from what I'm gathering.

BTW, I just Googled Janine Turner I guess she went all conservative.

Re: Let's talk about Cliffhanger.

I remember sneaking into Cliffhanger after seeing Super Mario Bros. That's the day I became a man. What the hell happened to Renny Harlin?

Re: Let's talk about Cliffhanger.

That opening sequence gives me a heart attack every time.

And man that actress who fell was a cutie. Shame she did so little work.

Re: Let's talk about Cliffhanger.

This is great movie and Sylvester Stallone did great starring and John Lithgow did great villian role. I finally brought this on DVD this year and it only (I forgot how much) must be $3.99 or $4.99 at the used CD/DVD store with an factory sealed and shrinkwrap. I see this movie before and now my DVD is unwatch and so can't wait to watch it and watch on extra feature too.

Re: Let's talk about Cliffhanger.

I remember seeing it when it came out, it was a nice action film.

And the year after it came out I was in Cortina, Italy (northern Italy) for a week; that is where the outdoor mountain scenes were filmed. Also the home of the '56 winter Olympics.

I just hiked around the lower parts of the mountains and drank wine, nobody was shooting at me.

Holy shit...we're still talking about Cliffhanger?

It's fucking Cliffhanger. A bad actor hanging from cliffs while directed by Renny Harlin.
