It's dumb fun, but I still remember a friend's main criticism of it back when it came out:

Stallone must have the strongest fingers in the world!

"It costs a fortune to heat this place." For some reason, I always remember that line from this movie.

Die Hard on a mountain! Janine Turner was hot back around this time.

Terrible movie...with a couple of decent action set pieces. Completely vacuous with no replay value for me. Renny Harlin I believe? Different strokes and all that. bluetoast glad you got some enjoyment from it.

Thanks man. Yeah I dunno there was something about it, I was really in the mood for some 90's action and it fit the bill.

Re: Let's talk about Cliffhanger.

The helicopter scene on the side of the cliff at the end of the movie is still an impressive bit of filmwork. I think there's very little (if any) special effects work going on there...they used a real helicopter (although I'm assuming the cliff wall used was constructed).

Re: Let's talk about Cliffhanger.

Cliffhanger is flawed, but it's essential 90's action viewing. I used to love it when it first came out. Michael Rooker overacting, John Lithgow's cheeseball accent that's there for no reason whatsoever, the soccer hooligan baddie, Leon getting impaled by an icicle. Great stuff.

"Ain't gravity a bitch." You know, when I first saw it, I really didn't care for it. It wasn't until I picked it up on DVD years later and decided to see if it was as bas as I remember...turns out I loved the absolute silliness of it. And damn did I have a thing for Janine Turner.

One of my favorite action movies of all time. It's one of the few movies I can remember seeing multiple times at the theater as a kid.

Have not seen this in such a long time. Remember enjoying it but need to see again if it's stood the test of time.

Re: Let's talk about Cliffhanger.

I'm usually a sucker for movies like this from the big action stars of the 80's and 90's, but I think I watched it once and thought it sucked.

Re: Let's talk about Cliffhanger.

Definitely one of my faves. I always like Harlin as an action director. Like above, that beginning scene, specifically that one wide shot just as she falls.... Chills.... Love the movie.

Definitely one of Stallone's best pure action flicks. It goes through the Die Hard checklist admirably.

Re: Let's talk about Cliffhanger.

CLIFFHANGER starts well, but gets increasingly silly as it ignores the effects of cold and freezing temperatures on inadequately covered wet human bodies and wet clothing. Also, no one ever takes the time to stop and eat or drink liquids (warm or otherwise) as they traverse great distances up and down various mountain peaks. You'd have to be Superman or Hercules to survive the rigors that Stallone withstands.

CLIFFHANGER is the reason I appreciate TWISTER so much. In TWISTER, the main characters stop chasing tornadoes at the mid-point so they can eat a big meal and take a nap before continuing.

I've always liked Cliffhanger. Sure, it's silly and stupid, but it's a lot of fun.

They should have stuck with the John Williams score.

Re: Let's talk about Cliffhanger.

I remember seeing this movie for the first time and felt sad the chick fell off. Very emotional scene.

It's a fun movie to watch, but it's one of those movies that I can't seem to fully concentrate on, if I'm distracted I don't bother rewinding the scene.

I was very upset that they killed
Spoiler:
Daddy Walton
in the movie. That bothered me more than anything. And the way he went out...ugh. Such a nice guy.
