Never hated it but thanks to TBS showing it every year, I've grown tired of it.

This movie just holds a place for me because my mom liked it a lot and I can always remember seeing it around Christmas time and it gets me in the spirit of the season.

Christmas nostalgia and memories of childhood -- its disappointments as well as its triumphs -- is probably why this film resonates for many people. I recall lying awake like Ralphie just thinking about stuff with the whistle of a distant train breaking the silence at night.

Beyond that the prose of Jean Shepherd, as well as his narration, is what makes this film a timeless classic for me.

I have to confess I've never been able to watch the entire movie. I find the characters utterly insufferable. It's been on at family gatherings on Christmas Eve or Christmas and I find myself leaving the room at some point to get away from it. If there's anything in the film I can relate to, I've never seen it.

Probably because it came out after 1950.

I've never cared for it, either. If someone has it on, I'll watch it, but I've never been one to put it on the tv.

The ButtHurt in this thread is EPIC.

Hate it and don't get me started on It's a Wonderful Life.

Well, since I'm an old fart, I saw this in the (virtually empty) theater when it was new, and not expecting anything, I was really taken with it - it's all about expectations. I didn't know a damn thing about it, and from the title, I wasn't particularly interested, and for the time, it was more than a little subversive.

Now, you're told that you're supposed to love it, so your expectations are already way too high.

I fucking hate this movie too. It's mean spirited comedy centering on the repeated humiliation of its main character. I hate those kinds of movies.

I also hate it.

There are PLENTY of movies that are that good that they could handle a 24 hour marathon. Home Alone, It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World, Miracle On 34th Street, A Christmas Carol (Patrick Stewart version), Holiday Inn, White Christmas, and One Magic Christmas.

Why does it annoy you? Elaborate... There are a lot of great bits in it. I love the movie. I do wish TBS wouldn't run it so much.

I saw the movie for the first time last Christmas. I don't see what the big deal is. There are lots of Christmas movies that are just as smarmy.

Finally you're talking some sense.

I loathe this movie with a passion.
