The One and Only Bruce Willis Thread

re: The One and Only Bruce Willis Thread
Regardless of Bruce Willis's health, the Razzies isn't a serious award, it's harmless fun, a roast, wink with the eye to Hollywood. It's not mean, it's not in bad taste, they just celebrate bad movies and most importantly, nobody cares for the Razzies.
I know Halle Berry and Sandra Bullock accepted their award, but besides that, who rembembers any winner?

Speaking of Eric Roberts, I was looking up his information on IMDB the other day (after seeing him in The Righteous Gemstones) and that dude has 657 acting credits to his name!! Holy shit!
His first acting credit is in 1977 which averages to over 14 acting roles a year for 45 years!
Compare that to Bruce Willis’ 146.
For fuck’s sake, Eric!

I came to see if this had been posted. I'm not sure how I feel about this. If he has the presence of mind to say "put an speaker in my ear and feed me lines so I can get a paycheck to support my family" that's one thing, but if he's just being propped up like a talking mannequin then somebody needs to step in. This is almost like the Britney Spears conservatorship issue.

And despite being in all of those movies, and even when he's little more than a cameo, Roberts still doesn't phone it in the way Willis does. In the making-of featurette on the DVD for the forgettable 2009 horror movie THE TOMB, Roberts says that he loves making these kinds of low-budget films because he gets to work with and help out a lot of driven, talented (or not) young genre filmmakers across the continent and around the world (or words to that effect). He seemed quite sincere.
You could probably start a thread on people like Roberts who seem to turn up if the shoot is catered, let alone if they're paid! For a while, it often seemed like he was part of a 'package' of actors who'd lend their remaining 'cred' to projects they knew might run the quality gamut: Michael Pare, Armand Assante, Nick Mancuso, Darryl Hannah, Steven Bauer, James Russo, John Savage, Michael Madsen, Daniel Baldwin, Dominique Swain and so many others. I suppose that's the gig, really, and when your 15 minutes are over – even if it ended decades ago, if it existed at all – it's time to hustle. My guess is most of these folks make a fraction of Willis's salary for his sleepwalker roles, which is kind of a shame because from what I've seen, and from Roberts' admission in that featurette, a lot of them still bring something to the roles they accept, and genuinely seem to enjoy working in the bush leagues, and presumably traveling the world to do it.

Yeah, Eric Roberts is humble and appreciates the work and he says he makes great money. I remember back when Sharktopus came out and they interviewed him for it - he said he got paid so-so for it, but thought it was outrageous and fun, and they put him up at some nice resort in Mexico where they were filming. He said it was like being on vacation everyday -- and getting paid for it.

Rumer says it's aphasia, and he's stepping away from acting.

That’s really sad news. Maybe that’s why he could only take these small straight to video movies since the brain disease was really affecting his ability to take jobs.

Sorry to hear this. I wasn’t a Moonlighting watcher, but I always liked his movies.

That's probably one factor for all those shitty movies, in the last couple of years. He never was the greatest actor, but he was a good one when he wanted to be and he is great movie star who made some really fine movies. This really suck, I'd wish he just would have gotten lazy, rather than getting brain damage.

I know we've all joked about it and what has gone on with his career. But in all seriousness, this sucks and I feel bad for him. I'm sure this wasn't how he wanted to go out.

This is shitty for him and his family. When these rumors started there was some speculation that his manager or handlers were taking advantage of his situation. I’m glad to see that (probably) wasn’t the case.

What I loved about Bruce in the early to mid stages of his career was that he was willing to try anything. You look at his 90s output, and I don't think there was a kind of movie he didn't make.

It sucks that he has brain damage. I looked at IMDB, and I think I've seen twenty movies where he was an actor. For me, that's a lot. He gave me a lot of enjoyment.

That leads to an difficult question. Should a professional quit when he can't do the job anymore, or is it okay to keep accepting a paycheck? Which deserves more honor: taking your last bow and leaving the stage when you're still pretty good and still have some juice left, or intrepidly playing in smaller and smaller venues when your time (or skill) has passed?
Is it wrong for the Razzies to mock someone who doesn't contribute anything, but only coasts on the reputation earned by what he used to do? Does it matter if the Razzies can't tell if the bad performance is caused laziness, age, or illness?

Or just get rid of the fucking Razzies cause everyone is just trying to do a job in life.
Absolute gutted. Bruce is my favorite all the way back to Moonlighting. I hope he can get some rest now and support from his family.

Wow, that is an awful diagnosis for someone who is not that old. I'm glad he has a lot of family to support him.

I kind of feel bad for all the shit he's taken in the last decade or so for all these DTV/VOD movies not knowing it was a health condition that forced him to take these low quality jobs.
But, when all is said and done, he's had a pretty amazing career.

I'm betting most of these movies will see a bump in interest now, either on streaming or bargain bin DVDs, with people naturally being curious to see what kind of 'tells', if any, are in his performances, BTS reels, etc., or to see if there was some kind of progression. I can't imagine the cast and crew on some of those shoots weren't contractually obliged to some kind of secrecy in case they spotted puzzling moments from him. Now that the cat's out of the bag, I'm sure stories will start emerging (hopefully with some empathy, and not just "I knew something was wrong!" self-aggrandizement).

Looking back on his catalogue, even removing the last ten years still leaves an incredible range of work. 2012 may be his best - Looper, Expendables 2 and Moonrise Kingdom.
