Wait, so Survive the Game is a different movie than Apex? Even though Apex appears to be direct ripoff of Surviving the Game which was already a ripoff of The Most Dangerous Game?

re: The One and Only Bruce Willis Thread
I can’t wait until they officially give up any creativity and just name Willis’ character in the next movie John Survive.

Finally!! The trailer for Deadlock ;)
It's almost comedy how many movies he cranks out in a year. |

Guess what? Yet another new Bruce Willis movie. Coming December 17th with his DTV co-stars Jesse Metcalfe and Chad Michael Murray
rotfl In this dazzling action cyber-thriller, Bruce Willis (Pulp Fiction) plays Robert, a retired CIA agent living at a secret resort in the woods. One day, his estranged son drives to the camp for a visit — but he’s followed by Robert’s old nemesis, Balzary (Chad Michael Murray, “One Tree Hill”). As the site is besieged by Balzary’s attack squad, father and son retreat to a high-tech bunker. But are its steel walls and advanced weapons powerful enough to match Balzary’s bloodthirsty plans for revenge? |
re: The One and Only Bruce Willis Thread
And there is already a sequel with most of the same cast in post-production - so easy to see which characters live and die.
Bruce has another nine films in post production according to IMDB and 3 awaiting release. Damn. |
re: The One and Only Bruce Willis Thread
Great news!! You can stream APEX on AMC+

re: The One and Only Bruce Willis Thread
So I decided to watch Apex (2021) and take one for the forum. First, I have certainly sat through worse drek than this - D grade productions made in someone's backyard with a camcorder and given a digital release. Apex though purports to be a real motion picture with a recognisable star and and at least professional supporting cast. Despite or because of that the film is anemic and as flaccid as a dead horse cock. Previous works from this director including Breach (as writer) and Cosmic Sin (as writer and director). The former was just about watchable with a reasonable attempt from Bruce Willis at developing a character and the second was a credible idea (first strike on an alien species before it attacks Earth) let down by appalling production values.
Apex is not an innovative film but it does use a basically iron-clad plot dating back to The Most Dangerous Game (1932); rich hunters going after humans for sport. The tweak here is a near future setting with the use of holograms and some kind of matter transporter to get people to and from the isolated island where the hunt takes place. Most of the film looks like it was shot in the forests of Canada and at least has some realism going for it. Much of the plot is taken up with the hunters fighting each other and seeking to rationalise their actions, anything to keep the narrative away from our hero. There is an added frisson in the last part of the film as the combatants pull in some 'mongrels' to also hunt Willis and they are initially presented as interesting characters including a priest but all are dead within two minutes of screen time. Why is that necessary? Well, Bruce Willis again seems to have signed one of his one to three day contracts and turned up with his much younger and thinner stunt double in tow. The film is full of close ups of the back of this stunt double's head as he scoots through the forest, of his hands as holds a gun or lights a cigar, of his feet as he jumps over logs, etc. There is even one digitally blurred but still obvious front on shot of the double which left me wondering if he was meant to be a new character but no, this is supposed to be Willis. Indeed, I cannot think of one scene where Willis is in shot with any of the other actors except for a hologram character who clearly is played by an actor in front of a green screen and composited. I am pretty sure Bruce did not meet any of the cast. Even the final confrontation between Willis and principal bag guy has the two of them on opposite sides of a room with neither sharing the same shot. With this hindsight I don't think Bruce did more than two days on set if that. The script is self-referential enough to identify Bruce's character in the context of some of his other parts. A criminal history notes him as the only survivor of a train crash (Unbreakable) and that he once drove a car through a plane (Die Hard 4?) and that he is someone the universe simply cannot kill (I think a reference to Cosmic Sin.) Apex is pretty poor but it is a semi-competent production with good locations, a wonderful musical score and some decent supporting performances. It needed a little more money and just a hint of commitment from its star to reach the level of acceptable. |

Yet another Willis movie

re: The One and Only Bruce Willis Thread
Looked this up on IMDb and noticed a name: Trevor Gretzky. Yes, Wayne's son...
Edit: And he also was in Cosmic Sin and Apex. |

I don't expect much from a Willis movie, but I did sit through Apex. I didn't care for it at all. Like others have said, I don't think Willis was even on set with other actors, he's never in a scene with one. He mostly just pontificates about nothing, while the rest of the characters spend time killing each other.

re: The One and Only Bruce Willis Thread
He probably could, but they don’t pay him what he wants for the little amount of work he wants to do.

re: The One and Only Bruce Willis Thread
Yeah. I don’t think Bruce was so much blackballed or cancelled as much as he just seems to have gotten really lazy.

re: The One and Only Bruce Willis Thread
He's still a name and can still get casual people to rent his movies from Red Box. They will be like, Wow, a new Bruce Willis movie is out?

re: The One and Only Bruce Willis Thread
Funny this thread came up today. I just caught the Comedy Central Roast of Bruce Willis and Ed Norton's entire act, obviously Bruce's only close personal friend on the stage, is mocking Bruce for making all these trashy DTV movies. It's actually a great little bit by Norton and felt the most like those old Carl Reiner roasts.

I saw "Out of Death" on Hulu, well I fast forwarded through the last 30 minutes.
It was terrible. Awful dialogue. Illogical actions by the characters. Title makes no sense. There is one scene where they needed to show Bruce Willis' character, but he probably already finished filming. So I think they just edited together some quick shots (none of the face/head) of some random actor. |
