Re: Peanuts (2015) S: Snoopy, et al
I hope there are scenes where Snoopy is having dreams of going to war that would be funny with this nice looking animation.
Also Pigpen must look really cool. :D |
Re: Peanuts (2015) S: Snoopy, et al
Looks OK to me, it's down to the writing now. Will they be able to resist modern pop-culture references?

Re: Peanuts (2015) S: Snoopy, et al
The owner at Cartoon Brew went on an insane rant over this (as if Peanuts is the pinnacle of artistic integrity) solely based on two still images and quotes. He later added the trailer and has some equal snarky comments. Not that I think this is a great idea, and I was never a huge fan of the strip, but bashing it based on just that, it's quite ridiculous and the commenters called him out on it:

from Indiewire
" it has Paul Feig in the producer's chair and he has worked to ensure that this contemporary version of "Peanuts" won't do anything too drastic. "Snoopy will not be rapping, no one will be twerking, we're in good hands," he said." |

I liked the teaser. It reminded me of an old Peanuts View Master reel brought to life.

Yeah, I really think it doesn't look bad at all. I'm also relieved it's not some animation/live action crap.
Another thing I noticed is that it doesn't appear to have that really smooth fluidity of typical CG animation. Although it's obviously not hand-drawn, the motion has that hand-drawn feel. There's no motion blur. Color me impressed. I was vehemently against CG-ifying the Peanuts gang, but I think you hit the nail on the head about the animation. It has that quirkiness to it instead of a shiny plastic and fluid feel. |

I too like the animation style. Modern but unique.

Agree with this. Anyone been to a Cedar Fair amusement park in the 22 years? And other than Snoopy and Chuck being icons, those two holiday specials are really the only thing most people know. Most who like those specials hate the strip.

I never understood the appeal of Peanuts. It's not funny but I guess it could be nostalgia for those of us that looked forward to the seasonal specials. Rental at best for me.

Re: Peanuts (2015) S: Snoopy, et al
Snoopy was never that demonstrative with Charlie Brown, except maybe in Snoopy, Come Home. He was always kind of aloof, treatng Charlie Brown more of a convenience than a friend.

Re: Peanuts (2015) S: Snoopy, et al
The gold standard in Peanuts animation (at least in terms of storytelling) is 1969's A BOY NAMED CHARLIE BROWN. If they can bring that kind of vibe to this new film, they'll have done well.

Cute!

Re: Peanuts (2015) S: Snoopy, et al
Looking good. ( still wish Laika could have done this) I'm just worried the voices are going to hurt it, especially if the get famous dbags for the voices.

Re: Peanuts (2015) S: Snoopy, et al
I wish they would have gone with the traditional Peanuts music instead of some crappy auto-tuned top 40 crap, but it's still a great trailer. Big fan of the animation style. The shot with all the kids at the end killed me.
|
Re: Peanuts (2015) S: Snoopy, et al
Looks great, and still loving the style and glad that they seemed to be able to capture all the characters in 3D properly.
I couldn't imagine Laika doing this, their stuff seems too eccentric and different in style. |
Re: Peanuts (2015) S: Snoopy, et al
The 2D/3D hybrid they have going is a perfect fit visually.
Glad to see some experimentation in animation visual styles lately. |
Re: Peanuts (2015) S: Snoopy, et al
Yeah. That song playing after the classic theme is shitty but otherwise.... looks fucking cool. They've got the spirit of it visually.

Re: Peanuts (2015) S: Snoopy, et al
I'm blown away by the visual style. I didn't think they could pull off 3D Peanuts but they've nailed it. I'm with everyone else too, the music blows.
Also next Christmas? Damn. |

Re: Peanuts (2015) S: Snoopy, et al
Looks quite a bit better than I expected. Not a fan of the music either but if the tone is kept true to the comics I'm definitely interested in seeing this.
