So there are six slow motion sequences and five of them are directly related to the use of the drug, slo-mo. Doesn't seem like a lot of slow motion sequences to me. I'd hate to be those complaining if they were ever subjected to movies directed by Zack Snyder, Michael Bay, Paul WS Anderson, or even John Woo.

So you're in the over-stylized and too colourful camp? I get how the look of the sequences may not have been everyone's cup of tea. However, my post that you quoted was actually directed towards those that complained about there being too many slo-mo sequences in this movie.

Yeah, and I wanted to see more of that! That's why I'm saying that I wished the movie had a bigger budget, because the movie was clearly on the right track, they just needed more ultra-violence.

And that would have required a bigger budget. I'm not understanding the "he had to kill people in creative ways" argument.
He kills people at will - "creativity" in killing doesn't figure into the equation. Maybe irony, but creativity?
He's human, not a super powered being, so I doubt he could absorb the bullets from 3 giant gatling guns if he didn't run away.

Taken from IMDB:
Isn't this just ripping off The Raid?
No. Dredd was written and filmed long before The Raid. Dredd's screenplay was written in 2008 and leaked online in 2010. Principal photography on Dredd took place between November and December 2010. The Raid did not go into production until November 2010, and was filmed in March 2011. Until the Summer of 2010, Raid director Gareth Evans had been planning to make an entirely different film and put The Raid together over the next nine months. Dredd producer/screenwriter, Alex Garland:
Honestly, I really don't believe that The Raid ripped off Dredd. And we didn't rip them off either. The timing doesn't allow for it - not that time-based logic has stopped many film journalists from suggesting that we stole their material

I've enjoyed watching the flick several times. The one nitpick I have is i didn't like the color scheme. I get the wild colors for the drug scenes so no problem there. I didn't like the colors in the rest of the film. I'm tempted to rewatch the film with the color settings desaturated or even in B&W like The Mist.
Hope a miracle happens and we get a sequel. I would love to see where they would take this next.

Quick! Someone win the lottery and give them the money!
Seriously though, I was very surprised by the film. I assumed I was going to dig it from what I saw but I amazed at what they did. SA is getting pretty popular these few years.

Keep buying and renting!!
So thats around $13 million in sales in the first week, which is what it did domestically during its run.
Dredd DVD and Blu-ray Top Sales Charts
Fans of Peter Travis’s brilliant Dredd 3D, the second attempt in ten years to make a feature film adaptation of the popular 2000 AD antihero Judge Dredd and the second to be considered a box office failure, have been aggressively pushing to make the film a success on home video in the (probably vain) hope that doing so will motivate Lionsgate to make a sequel.
Well, it looks like it’s worked; according to a statement from the film’s home video distributor, the movie is the #1 DVD and Blu-ray in the country, with over 650,000 units moved in its first week of release, setting the bar as the top-selling new release title of 2013.
Blu-ray units accounted for nearly 50% of week 1 POS at retail. In addition, the critically acclaimed thriller, starring Star Trek‘s Karl Urban as the titular character Judge Dredd , was the top film download for the week, outpacing all other titles in digital sales as well.
An aggressive campaign promoting the film as a digital download has continued, with the Sony Entertainment Network recently spotlighting the movie in its monthly newsletter.
Adapted by Alex Garland from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra’s comic book creatio and released in a 3-D Blu-ray, Dredd adds to Lionsgate’s long history of theatrical titles that have overconverted their box office performance on Blu-ray, DVD and digital. The Blu-ray Disc and DVD both contain multiple behind-the-scenes featurettes including a look back at the 35 years of Judge Dredd .
With a highly competitive landscape during its theatrical debut, the thriller’s powerful home entertainment success underscores the importance of the market, something larger studios have been wont to overlook as the digital market overtakes physical media and DVD and Blu-ray sales for many mainstream films come in lower than expected..
“Dredd‘s chart topping performance demonstrates the breadth of the home entertainment audience for this exciting, high caliber film as well as underscoring our ability to monetize theatrical titles across all home entertainment platforms through the highest packaged, VOD and digital conversion rates in the industry,” said Ron Schwartz , Lionsgate Executive Vice President & General Manager, Home Entertainment. “We’re also pleased that a film released on 3-D Blu-ray was able to top the sales charts, a clear reflection of how quality films in this up and coming format can find their audience.”

I hope they make it confusing title wise. Since this is the second Dredd movie and it's called Dredd 3D, if they make a second lower budget movie, dropping the 3D, would it just be Dredd 2?

Looking at history Lionsgate green lit Punisher War Zone from the success of Punisher on Video. Heres how it went down:
The Punisher DVD was released on September 7, 2004 and sold nearly 1.8 million copies in its first five days[19] and netted $10.8 million in rentals its first week out, making it number one in DVD sales.[20] Sales continued at a steady pace, ultimately topping 4 million units. During October, The Punisher DVD rentals were still in the top ten and various cable and satellite providers had started to offer The Punisher as a pay-per-view feature.[21] Between worldwide film box office and DVD sales, it grossed $115 million ($55 million worldwide + $60 million from DVD sales).

Well actually it's proper title is Dredd. The 3D is there cuz that was the format. When the title comes up in the film, it's Dredd. So technically it could be Dredd 2..if somehow they lose the 3D aspect. BUT...again...some films don't have 3D in their title either. It's just a heads up about the format. Nothing more.

I thought War Zone had better action than Jane's Punisher, then again, I like the director's cut with the Tim Bradstreet artwork prologue a lot and I also love the new Thomas Jane short film reintroducing the character. Dirty Laundry, I think it was called.

My biggest gripe w/ that short is that I don't think Castle would've let it escalate very far w/ that woman. On the other hand, it has the greatest marketing for Jack Daniels ever.
