85%+ of the movies mentioned here weren't planned as trilogies. The topic heading really should be about one or the other.

It has been so long since I saw "First Strike" that I totally forgot that was "4". I bought the Fortune Star "Police Story" Blu-Ray set and only 1,2, &3 were Included.

Ya lousy bums.

I've never considered FIRST STRIKE part of the POLICE STORY series. It's so completely different in terms of plot and style (and entertainment value) that it should never be mentioned in the same breath as the three real POLICE STORY films. Even if the filmmakers, including Jackie himself, came to my door and insisted it was meant to be #4, I wouldn't believe them and would tell them to get lost--and to take FIRST STRIKE with them.

Hmmm, let's compare:

When Christopher Nolan made Batman Begins, he didn't intend to make a trilogy

When Sergio Leone made A Fistful of Dollars, he didn't intend to make a trilogy

When Christopher Nolan made The Dark Knight, he intended it to be a sequel to the previous film but (presumably) didn't intend to make a trilogy

When Sergio Leone made For a Few Dollars More, he didn't intend it to be a sequel or prequel to any film and didn't intend to make a trilogy

When Christopher Nolan made The Dark Knight Rises, he intended it to be a sequel to the previous two films and the concluding chapter of a trilogy

When Sergio Leone made The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly, he didn't intend it to be a sequel or prequel to any film and didn't intend to make a trilogy

Whoa you should be getting a call from Emilio Estevez thanking you for being the guy to mention it during the last 10 years.

The 1st 2 Police Story movies were probably the most consistent in tone. Hong Kong cop movies with comedy mixed in. Supercop and then First Strike became more international James Bond-type action movies rather than the Hong Kong cop films the 1st 2 were.

IIRC, Supercop and First Strike were released in American theatres shortly after the International success of Rumble in the Bronx.

Most of my favorites have been mentioned, but I also feel compelled to mention the Apu trilogy. One of the few trilogies that, in my opinion, gets better as it goes along.

I was just goofing around. Mighty Ducks came up in a conversation with my wife today for some reason I can't quite recall, and once it occurred to me that there were three of them, I decided to post it here.

In no particular order:

"Three Colours"
"Dragon Tattoo"
"The Godfather"
"Toy Story"
"Bourne"
"Back to the Future"
"Lord of the Rings"

And I'll go with Numanoid's "Superman"/"Superman II"/"Superman Returns".

I think "Supercop" retains some of the tone of the first two movies, but there is the whole drug meeting that turns into a full on Ah-nuld movie, before returning to a more Jackie Chan final 20 minutes.

From my recollection, "First Strike" really had a tone similar to the other Jackie Chan movies released around the time (Rumble in the Bronx, Mr. Nice Guy, Thunderbolt), which I will agree had a different tone than the previous three movies.

Although not "great", I really enjoy the Maniac Cop trilogy.
