C'mon, Jules... admit it. You know those kids started off as annoying, thugged-out assholes, and they did extremely little to redeem themselves throughout the film. Comparisons to Monster Squad are wildly outrageous. And the magic moment of exposition at the end when one of them figures out what the hell is going on? To quote what I'm sure one of them said at some point in the film: bollocks.

Re: Channing Tatum

I think some people in these parts hate him because he's the reason GI Joe II was pushed back.

For me, he's not a deciding factor when it comes to picking a movie to see but he is developing a good resume.

They did start off as thugged out assholes but I kinda like that they're not wholesome. Every other movie has wholesome protagonists so for me, it was refreshing. The movie worked so didn't mind the magic moment. Plus the monster design was simple and not too overly complicated which is a huge plus. Plus it was pretty funny. Plus I wanted to chant Moses also when the movie ended. We'll always have Spider-man though.

Re: Channing Tatum

I'm going against the grain in this thread, but I like Channing Tatum as he's an extremely likable actor. He's like Tom Cruise. He's not the greatest actor on the planet, but you enjoy the hell out of his work. The difference here being is Cruise has been in a lot better quality of films than Tatum. And possibly that Tatum isn't a douchenozzle in real life based upon stories I've heard and read.

Examples:

Step Up was a piece of shit, but he's likable enough to make the film watchable. His cameo in Step Up 2 the Streets was one of the brighter spots in that entry (that and the final dance sequence in the rain).

21 Jump Street works because he goes against type and gives it his all. His work in that film gives me confidence that he'd be a great comedic actor as there's nothing off limits to him.

Magic Mike may have been Soderbergh's worst film in a long time, but Tatum is (again) extremely likable in the role.

Say what you will, but he's slowly building a solid resume and he's developing a presence that most actors working within the studio system wish to have.

Presently, he's been pretty mediocre in everything.

What performances would you submit as proof that he has range as an actor?

Maybe I'm just easy to please, but I thought his delivery in Magic Mike was spot on. The dialogue in that movie had the same "real life" feel that Bridesmaids had.

I agree with you. Tatum isn't one of the best actors of his generation or anything, but I find him to be really likeable and fine in the movies he's been in. And I agree that the better movies he's placed in, the better he'll be. He isn't the type of actor that can raise the level of a bad movie, but I think he can rise to the level of a good one.

Pushed back because of him? Is he the one converting it to 3d?

There's reshooting and re-editing and adding a bunch more Channing Tatum.

And they're doing 3D.

Ahh ok, I wasn't aware of that. I had heard the only reason for the delay was that they were adding 3d.

They're not "adding a bunch more Channing Tatum". They just
Spoiler:
removed his death from the first 10 minutes of the movie and tacked on a coda where he's babysitting the Rock's daughters.
But they are converting it to 3D.

Re: Channing Tatum

I don't hate him and the only reason I give him a chance is because Soderbergh has given him one. Other than that I wouldn't think anything about him.

Change "him" to "her" and I feel the same way about Sasha Grey.

Tom Cruise in his early years was still better than Tatum.

Re: Channing Tatum

That was bizarre.

No one mentioned it, but Channing Tatum was quite good in A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints.

I wish it was him and not Spacey who was charged with sex crimes.

Re: Channing Tatum

Tatum only exists so that Ryan Gosling isn't the most wooden actor working today.

I think Channing should delete the Pattern app... definitely seems like he's fallen off the deep end.

Cena has charisma and Tatum does not.
