Re: Channing Tatum
I was originally put off by his "urban" vibe. The movie that made me start to see his potential as an actor, surprisingly enough, was The Dilemma with Vince Vaughn and Kevin James. In that movie, he actually sounded like a white guy, and he was funny.
Thought he nailed 21 Jump Street.

I've never been a fan of his work, but I actually thought he was the best he's ever been in 21 Jump Street. Maybe there's hope for him after all.

Re: Channing Tatum
Why is he getting all these big roles lately?
Does he have a really good agent?
He is probably the most wooden actor currently working in movies. Keanu has more charisma than this guy.
21 Jumpstreet could have been so much better if Andy Samberg, James Franco, Bill Hader or Justin Timberlake played that role.
It is not that I am jealous because he is supposedly a good looking guy but Depp and Pitt are handsome too but they have skills and can act.
When will the 15 minutes of fame end and he will start working in direct to DVD releases?

Re: Channing Tatum
I'd agree for the most part depending on what that story is. Attack The Block for example had a hater from this thread cuz of that stuff. Well..that..and maybe they just hate urban talk. I don't mind it as long as it makes sense in the context..and it's pull off in a fashion that doesn't seem forced.

Re: Channing Tatum
Tatum's success is a mixture of things:
1.) He's good-looking and has a strong presence on the screen. There's something charming about him. You want to watch him.
2.) He doesn't seem to be a jerk, making him easy to work with. He doesn't seem overly stuck on himself.
3.) Until now, he could be hired cheaply. That is going to change with his newfound success, obviously.
4.) He's becoming a de facto action star in a time that the public seemingly wants one. Stallone, Arnold, Willis and others are in their 60s. Vin Diesel only seems to hit the mark with the F&F franchise these days. Stratham has his mini-franchises, but it doesn't feel like he's that popular. Movie lovers enjoy having 2 or 3 of these guys around. Dwayne Johnson has claimed one spot. Tatum is the right guy in the right place at the right time.
5.) Most importantly, he seems to realize that he's not the best actor, and stays in his lane accordingly. Over the past 2-3 years, he's chosen good roles that maximize his assets: a jock-type man's man that women will drool over, nice speaking voice with some cadence, with phsycial acting that he can pull off easily.

Re: Channing Tatum
lol. Talk black is not accurate. Plenty of black people speak neutrally and normal. My "urban" remark refers to the dialect. I'll probably it alot of heat for this, but I find heavy thick regional accents annoying; be it southern, New York, mid western, surfer, etc. A little is fine and expected, but when it comes at the cost of speaking proper English, its annoying to me.

I bet struggling actors that resemble or look like Paul Giamatti or Philip Seymour Hoffman had a chance to get in the industry and hope they had a chance to improve their acting skills with each movie they made.
Everybody hates Jimmy Fallon but defends this guy?
