I think Faverau's approach was unique. Ditto for TWS by the Russos. Those two stand out from MCU. Also Black was interesting too. I think Gunn is going to be unique as well.

The rest were safe approaches, good, but safe. Until he was out, Wright was easily the best director the MCU had. Pisses me off that he is out.

So like... With a thing like this. When a director is out but put in a lot d preproduction work in... They get paid to what point? Just to where it ended or a flat fee or what?

Wright made millions, no doubt. I'm sure he also had to sign a NDA, too.

I can't imagine that Wright's vision couldn't conform to the MCU.
Obviously it couldn't though if the last rumor is to be believed, otherwise they wouldn't have split after all this time. Maybe they expected that Wright could combine his own trademarks within Marvel's confines, but it turned out otherwise. I know everyone wants to blame Marvel and give Wright the benefit of the doubt, and we have plenty of history about studio interference, but I still think Marvel's track record has been excellent and unless Ant-Man sucks I'll reserve judgement.

I wouldn't really call them bland at all, especially since we're coming off Winter Soldier and the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy. Coupled with the love a lot of people have for Shane Black and Iron Man 3, seems like they've been pretty open to bucking the trend of a standard superhero movie to me. Just with certain... limits

As long as Rudd is still involved, I'm happy. I was more worried that this was going to happen to Gunn when he got the job.

Gunn has Whedon. I don't think Marvel wants to throw anything that could upset Avengers 2.

They could work out. Visually speaking they could fit well with the MCU. They're great company guys, in a good way.

Who gives a fuck what Joss Whedon looks like? Does looking like a generic, balding, white dude factor in to how good a writer he might be?

It's not a big deal to not know what Joss Whedon looks like. He's not Spielberg level of recognition. Shit, Kevin Smith is more known than Whedon.

I forgot about this, but I saw it mentioned that this isn't the first time that Marvel had replaced a director for creative reasons; it happened for Thor 2 also when Patty Jenkins was originally supposed to direct.

I'm not sure you got the tone the rest of us were going for. We were joking with Hokey because we've known him for years. You're a name-calling newbie.

Keep it up and you won't be around long enough for people to get to know you.

I threw out the question of who should direct this that can mix comedy/action, and many threw out the suggestion, Justin Lin.

Yeah. But she wasn't working on that project like Wright had been doing... For 8 years.

And still couldn't develop a script Marvel liked!

So wait, Wright has been working on Ant-man since before Hot Fuzz?

He's been wanting to do an Ant-Man since before Spaced.

Wanting to do and actually working on with focus are two different things.

re: Ant-Man (2015, D: Reed) S: Rudd, Douglas, Lilly

He got hired by Marvel in April 2006.

HF came out in the UK in February of 2007. HF started filming in March of 2006.

Yeah. He got hired during preproduction of HF. Damn. That must have been awesome for Wright.

He did get a heads up by Artisan before and he developed a treatment with Cornish as to how he'd do it, Lang was a type of burglar, but supposedly it didn't fit the family image type of film for them

Hokeyboy is the biggest poseur I know. I have it on good authority that his avatar doesn't look anything like him!

Unlike mine, which is quite accurate to my physical dimensions and colors.
