Re: Ant-Man (2015, Wright) S: Rudd
I find this interesting, since it means Pym's active period as a superhero (assuming he was one) would likely have been the 70s, but there's been no reference to superhero activity between Captain America and the creation of the Hulk.
But maybe he was working for SHIELD. Or maybe he was just too small to be noticed.

Scott Lang also stole the suit to start with in his standard 616 origin, so it really wouldn't be borrowing from O'Grady at all.

With Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas now set as Scott Lang and Hank Pym, Marvel has now moved on to other supporting players by offering Michael Pena a part in “Ant-man.”
Edgar Wright is directing with Kevin Feige producing.
Plot details are still vague but with Lang and Pym both appearing in the film, fans have suspected Wright is taking on a different approach since both characters at one point portrayed the superhero.
Marvel is planning a April shoot with the female lead the last major role left to cast. Rashida Jones and Bryce Dallas Howard are names that have been mentioned but as of now no one has been offered the part.
Pena is repped by CAA and just wrapped production on Sony’s “Fury.” TheWrap first reported the news.

I'm just not feeling this. Seems they're wasting all the goodness that is Hank Pym on Ant-Man which is far from his best identity. No Yellow Jacket? No connection to Ultron?

I dunno. I always associate Pym as the Ant-Man/Giant man combo. Or the guy who beat his wife.
I don't think we have enough time to make Ultron be a mistake from Pym. You have to like him first, you can't throw him under the bus too fast. To a degree from what we've seen in the MCU... Ultron somehow stemming from Stark seems good. Especially if that could mean that Jarvis somehow becomes The Vision. That's just nerd rumor though. But I'd be excited to see The Vision in A2. Cuz you know we're getting Wanda and Pietro in here. And if we're getting Ultron too... Vision can't be too far right?

I just think he's a better character then throwing him away as an old "mentor" in Michael Douglas.

As long as he beats the ever-loving shit out of his wife, I'll be happy.

Jeez, guys. He only smacked her once and he gets labelled "Wife Beater."
What about Reed and Peter?
And MJ was pregnant at the time!

It's because unlike Richards and Parker, as others have said that's his defining moment; well, that and creating Ultron. Not exactly a stellar track record there. Outside of that and having a breakdown because he couldn't decide on a superhero identity, what does he have from the silver age? And then Ultimates made it worse.

The Ultimates didn't help and I think that cement the "wife beater" label more than anything else.
Peter has a pretty shitty track record as well including accidentally killing Gwen Stacy. But fans give him a pass because he's Spidey.

I was a regular Avengers reader when the "wife-beater" issue originally hit the stands. I think what made it such a cementing moment is that they made a really big deal out of it in the subsequent issues instead of having the writers dismiss it like they did/do with other spousal abuse scenes in comics. Man, that was a depressing run.
And what sucks for Hank was that no one remembers that his breakdown and behavior was orchestrated by Egghead. He gets tagged with "wife-beater" while other heroes get a pass - and it wasn't even his fault!
