I thought the budget was 30 million? If so, it's already made twice the money budget back SK alone. Whether it bombs here, in limited release, it's already a money maker there.

The budget was around $35m production, advertising is likely much more cost efficient in S. Korea, and I'm not sure what percentage of ticket sales they get.

So it isn't a money maker quite yet, unless they sold the rights outright to foreign countries.

The Shyster appears to be buckling under pressure to keep the international cut.

Do we have a US release date for this yet? Or am I just going to be better off importing the Korean BD?

You're better off importing. The Korean Blu-ray should be the the full version.

Anyone know if/when/where the Korean import will be available? I've kind of lost touch with importing (except from the UK), so I don't know where to look for titles like this (and others I may be interested in...)

edit: is this French import supposedly the full version? http://www.amazon.fr/Snowpiercer-Blu-ray/dp/B00GOZSMRS

that version is region B and does not have english subtitles (apparently about 20% of the movie is in korean, unless they burned in english subs for korean dialogue sequences as it was meant to be an american movie. Id say wait for a Korean import, they are usually region free too

Well yeah...just wondering about a theatrical release. My local theater gets a lot of new Korean releases, but I don't think it came out here (unless it was before I got back from deployment).

I wouldn't hold my breath for uncut. This is after all the man that wanted to shorten the 99 minute Chinese theatrical cut of Hero to make it more palatable to US audiences. Only Quentin Tarantino agreeing to slap his name on the poster (in addition to advertising it as "Jet Li's Hero") was enough to convince Harvey Scissorhands otherwise.

Here's hoping Tarantino or Scorsese see the long version of Snowpiercer & convince Harvey to release it at 125 minutes

Seems to me that Harvey the knife could make a ton of movie from a concurrent full length VOD on DirecTV and the like.

Gee, Harvey Weinstein is cutting an Asian film and making a hack job of a director's vision. What a shock. It's as sad as can be, be this is simply SOP for him and just expected now. As if the bad storage standards HK cinema had to endure weren't enough, the damage Harvey did by keeping them from good distributors and gridlocking their legal rights was probably even worse for them. So much to answer for, but of course he never will.

and if Tarantino were to see the Korean cut and proclaim it the best thing he's ever seen watch Harvey change his mind

Tarantino's constant borrowing from Hong Kong cinema and singing it's praises while working for the Weinsteins can't help but feel a bit contradictory. But even granting he does do that, it still hard absolves them of the many films they've mangled in the past, IMO.

The more I think about this flick, the more I need to see it. I hope the Canadian release date is at least the same as the US... even if it's butchered... I'll see it.
I've got the English-translated graphic novels on pre-order, too.

per imdb the runtime is only 126 minutes. They make it sem like its a 2.5 hour epic

Seems like the directors cut that is now showing is just over two hours but apparently the first cut was 2.5 so there is still some confusion over the length of the uncut version that will be released in the US. If they are smart they release it on DirecTV at the same time since it will be limited.
