Well ASM has it much easier than HBII did. I can't believe they released that like a week before TDK. Never had a chance.

Per Deadline:
TUESDAY 11 PM, 3RD UPDATE: More fireworks at the North American box office on the eve of U.S. Independence Day. My sources say Sony Pictures’ superhero reboot The Amazing Spider-Man opened with $35M (though some rival studios put the number in the neighborhood of $32M tonight). It easily sets a new domestic record for a Tuesday opening – helped by its 3D premium pricing – and is ahead of the original 2D Transformers ($27.8M) that debuted on Tuesday July 3rd, 2007.

BOM is also quoting $35M for The Amazing Spider-Man's Tuesday gross. It'll be interesting to see how it does throughout the week until Monday. Spider-man 3 had an impressive opening weekend, but had a massive Sunday-to-Monday drop (75%). It also saw a 62% drop in weekend two which was the biggest second weekend drop the entire franchise saw.
Ted is actually doing quite impressive. Despite the work week still in effect the past two days, it pulled in $17.1M between Monday and Tuesday alone. Magic Mike pulled in $11M as well. I'm glad to see two R-rated films speeding their way to the $100M mark. Hopefully it shows Hollywood that regardless of the rating, people will see original (and good) films.

Funny it's coming in the form of an R rated talking bear comedy that they didn't develop on their own.

It'll be interesting to see how small of a drop Ted encounters this weekend based upon the fact it's made over $32M over the week alone. It'll be interesting to see how Magic Mike ends up based upon the fact it's had a drop every day since its release.
Savages will be the final nail in Taylor Kitsch's coffin as a leading man.
I saw Katy Perry: Part Of Me 3D last night during primetime (7:30PM) and there was nobody in the theater. Paramount thinks this is going to be a film that has legs and does Beiber money. I'm sorry to tell you this, but if you can't get the most hardcore of fans out on opening day, you're fucked.

Not a fan of Kitsch, MC?
Gonna see Savages tonight. Who knows about Katy Perry. Ya gotta wait til at least Saturday to call a premier a flop, right? Shit, I didn't know it opened yesterday. Looks like Pepsi is a big sponsor to the film too so who knows how much the studio is hoping for.

Let me be another to say that Universal is fucking moronic for not re-releasing Jaws this summer. I would've seen it TWICE.
Was any part of it worth watching? Or should I just stick to fapping over current internet pics?

Katy Perry's film cost $12M to produce. If Paramount passes that threshold domestically, they'll be happy.

I don't pin it on him, he will be fall boy for two mediocre flicks. Savages is the first one I actually want to see. That said, John Carter was a much bigger flop than Battleship.

$12 million is nothing. I have no interest in the film but I don't think Paramount is "fucked" with that number.

I really don't think Kitsch was the reason for JC and BS being failures. He was fine in JC but the flick itself was just off. Battleship just seemed like a stupid concept from the start.

JC and BS were both star vehicles without a star, you needed a big name up front to sell those concepts. You can blame the studio for that move not Taylor Kitsch, he was just taking a big job.

5 KATY PERRY: PART OF ME Paramount 2,730 $3,100,000
-- / $1,136 $3,100,000 / 1
thats pretty brutal for a movie that has been pretty well advertised (and whose singer has the number 1 song on itunes)

Based upon Finke's estimates, that's less than a 35% drop for Ted.
Brave seeing less than a 25% drop?

Magic Mike will only see a 50-55% drop which isn't as steep as most were expecting. Women can make an opening huge, but its clear they don't show up for repeat viewings or spread WOM.
Not surprised by Savages or Katy Perry's weak openings. I'm glad to see Moonrise Kingdom again in the top ten. I'm also curious to check out To Rome with Love despite negative-to-lukewarm reviews. Or should I just re-watch To Paris with Love instead?
