It is, in a nutshell, a glove that houses the six infinity stones/gems. It grants the wearer omnipotence.

This power is sought by Thanos, the purple alien seen briefly at the end of the first Avengers movie and later in Guardians of the Galaxy.

The Infinity Stones/Gems were explained in Guardians of the Galaxy. Each stone has a certain power: Space, time, mind, soul, reality, and power. We have already seen at least three of these stones in the MCU -- the Tesseract (Captain America The First Avenger and The Avengers), the Aether (Thor The Dark World), and the Power Stone (the thing everyone was after in Guardians of the Galaxy). It is also believed that Loki's sceptre from Avengers is also one of the stones, or contains one.

Isn't it a little too early to be playing with the gauntlet?

Ant-Man
Civil War
AoS (If it's still around)
AoS spinoff
Spider-Man
Jessica Jones
Doctor Strange
Gaurdians of the Galaxy 2
Black Panther
Thor Ragnarok
Captain Marvel
Luke Cage
Inhumans

Hey, remember when that guy picked up that glove many years ago?
Oh, yeah!

Infinity War part 1 comes out in 2018, before Black Panther, Captain Marvel or Inhumans. I would also bet that we'll get bits with him acquiring different stones in the features that precede Infinity War.

I don't like wiki pages for comics, they go into way too much detail and I just get confused.

Re: The Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015, Whedon)

Minor spoilers for Age of Ultron:

Spoiler:
The gem in Loki's scepter is confirmed in AoU to be the mind gem.
The Tesseract is the space gem.
The Aether is the reality gem.
The Orb from GOTG is the power gem.
So the only ones we have yet to see in the movies are the soul and time gems.

They're called Infinity Stones in the movies, but they're called Infinity Gems in the comics. Same thing, but I just like calling them gems because it sounds cooler.

Another funny, possibly ironic thing, is that I just rewatched the first Avengers movie yesterday to get pumped up for AOU, and I noticed that Thanos actually gives the mind gem to Loki in that movie. So Thanos already had one of them, but he lost it when he gave it to Loki. Not really sure why Thanos would have done that, but oh well.

Movie Thanos seems to be an idiot. Or he's very hands-off about these matters.

The latter I think. He wanted Loki to acquire the Tesseract, and Loki failed. Then he wanted Ronan to acquire the Orb, and Ronan failed. I think that's kind of the point of
Spoiler:
the mid-credit sequence in AoU where he says, "Fine I'll handle it myself." He is tired of his minions failing him, so he is finally going to get his hands dirty and acquire the gems himself.

I kinda get that but
Spoiler:
it's rather idiotic to leave something so important to mere minions. Any one of those gems/stones/whatever wielded by his enemies (or a minion that chooses to betray him) would be a huge problem for him. If they are so powerful and so important, it'd be something that he'd have handled personally from a beginning. And he certainly would not have given one to Loki.

That's why I think movie Thanos comes across like a moron.

Spoiler:
Yeah, and Ronan did betray Thanos.

I never assumed Thanos was a moron though. I just assumed he knew he couldn't trust Loki and Ronan and had some contingency plans to deal with them when/if they betrayed him. Bad guys know better than to trust each other. That's just Bad Guy 101.

I'm not really sure what the plan was in the first Avengers movie though. I assume Thanos gave the mind gem to Loki so that Loki could build his army to acquire the Tesseract, and then Thanos would have taken both gems back from Loki. Yet what was the purpose of building an army? As soon as Loki first materializes on Earth, he steals the Tesseract right away. So I don't get the whole point of why an army was needed. Loki had both gems within the first 10 minutes, so I guess they needed filler to pad out the next 2 hours since a 10 minute movie is too short.

And if the Tesseract was that easy to steal, why didn't Thanos just do it himself? Maybe he isn't stupid, but he is lazy. Actually the Orb seemed pretty easy to steal as well since Star-Lord got it so easily.

MCU Timeline. Image needs to be updated, but the Wiki is neat (and already getting complicated!)

I can picture Thanos on his fancy EZ Chair right now. "I burn with the desire to rule the universe! If only it wasn't so much work..." *sigh* "I'm just gonna binge some shows on Netflix while Loki and Ronan handle things for me."

Thanos is taking cues from Darkseid. (Darkseid is frequently depicted sitting on a couch, and it has become a meme.)

13 minute summary of everything so far Would have been neater without the attempts at comedic one liners, but still a nice watch and refresher.

13 minute summary? NOOB!!

I have been marathoning all the movies, one per day.

(I realize I just set myself up to be called a noob by someone who went to that 24 hour MCU marathon. I would do that if I had the butt stamina.)

Sometimes I feel like I was born a decade or two too early. Back when I was a kid, being nerdy wasn't cool, but it seems like being nerdy is the cool thing now.
Spoiler:

I rarely see girls in my comic shop, but they do seem to be part of the larger fandom now. There's more female-centric stuff now-Twilight and such.

Getting in to comic books is lumped right in there with all those things, and honestly the comic and manga section are filled with both boys and girls at Barnes and Noble.

I end up at a lot of nerdy conventions and events as part of my job, and there's definitely a lot of attractive girls and women these days. Walking around Comic Con San Diego certainly as full of the fat nerd stereotype that it used to be.
I have heard rumors ....

As I said, a lot of that stuff has gone mainstream now. Anime used to be tape-trading fans, then there was the big explosion in the Toonami era. That probably drew that audience to manga as well. Elsewhere, some of that kind of stuff-The Hunger Games, etc. tend to be pretty hot properties. The stigma of some of the stuff has gone away, and the methods of distribution have changed too. LOTR used to be for D&D players, now it's a gigantic film franchise with mass appeal.

Okay maybe not, yeah he's making a boatload of money on a dream job, but everything has its limits and the $100m just means he can't directly complain about it
He also get access to the most sophisticated filmmaking equipment on the planet, so it's not like he's some struggling indie filmmaker financing his project over the course of several years on cheap film stock .

So what kind of trailers did everyone get? I was quite disappointed that I didn't get either Star Wars or Bats v. Supes. I got this lovely lineup:

Ant-Man
San Andreas
Pixels
The Gift
